Default The GOOD, the BAD, and the UGLY

I just got back last night from Watkins Glen.

The GOOD is that the new wastegate, MBC, chips, and FPR I recently installed work beautifully! The throttle response and power increase made the car feel like never before. Power came on sooner, smoother, and harder. I am very confident that I could have made a personal best lap time once the track warmed up a little.

The BAD is that the driver behind me on the track didn't have his video camera recording when the UGLY happened. Apparently there was a spectacular puff of smoke when the proverbial **** hit the fan.

Which brings us to the UGLY..well, I'll let the pics tell the story...

Not sure. I only drove it for about an hour before "KABOOM". Maybe when I replaced the wastegate I dropped a little something into the crossover pipe? I would have thought if that were the case that it would have happened sooner.

do you run an EGT gauge? I am guessing the cartridge bearings seized and then the shaft snapped

No EGT gauge.

This is the original 26/6, which I had rebuilt in the fall of '06 as a maintenance item. So it probably has less than 20 hours on it since the rebuild.

I am just glad it wasn't the compressor side.

Since it is on the exhaust side,I dont think anything could get sucked in unless some of your ceramic line blew out of your exhaust port/s.

D&W Diesel. I can't place blame though, since I don't know the cause.

I knew the Carnage King would be proud. What is left of those blades is actually imbedded in the housing. I can't even pull them out!

Well that thought crossed my mind. But I am thinking of replacing it with another 26/6. I want this thing to be reliable.

Wow that stinks. Hopefully nothing made it into your engine.

You should look into one of the small aftermarket turbos like a Lindsey 48 or a SFR Stage 1. Running at stock boost they shuold give you better boost response, maybe a small hp increase without stressing your engine and you have a brand new, modern technology turbo.
