I noticed that in PET normal rear hatch spoiler (till 89) had different hatch part number than the hatch that the new spoiler (since 90) was mounted.

So the question is: Is it possible to mount 944/968 spoiler on a 89 hatch with the old style spoiler? Are the mountings the same?
I want to buy 944/968 spoiler and change the 944 and need to know if i'm gonna need different hatch.

Damn, I though it will be less complicated... Think that it would be better to get a 968 hatch, cause don't have conditions to mount it like this

yeah its actually easier to mount the fiberglass replica available on ebay.co.uk I did and if ur comfortable working with fiberglass its worth it. it cost me about $300 to my door from the uk. I don't know what a 968 hatch runs for but here they go for $750 and up

I was thinking about that replica when i started this topic. Its about 190 pounds to poland, so it's not so bad, cause original costs lot more.
Don't mind the fiberglass. Just want to have not so complicated install so nobody can screw this up. And yup, if I buy original 68 hatch with rear spoiler it can take about $1250...

So as I can read - the only thing that needs more work with that one from uk is drilling some holes, right? Everything else should go with no problems?

You don't have to drill holes into the glass or frame, just into the fiber glass.

It comes with 4 pieces, the middle section under the spoiler, the two side sections, and the spoiler part itself. I mounted the middle trim section first, then use blue painters tape to line up the side trim pieces and temporarily put them on. Then you lay the spoiler part on top of it and mark its position on the side trim pieces since thats where it attaches. Then you just drill the holes where necessary, bolt it together.

I would suggest you try fit it before painting it in case you have to trim anything, redrill holes etc. It can be quite challenging if you have never worked with fiberglass before, but its definitely worth it if you don't want to spend the big $$$ for the factory hatch.

Warning: If you get a 968 hatch with the 3rd brake light on the bottom, you will not be able to use your key to open the hatch, because the 944 hatch keyhole is too high.

Airflite40: thanks for the info. It will be very helpful when I buy it. I will probably get it done when i give my car to repainting and fixing some bodywork, so i will not do it myself.

Only in north american market.
Since you live in Poland, just make a short trip to Germany and pick 968 hatch from there. There are those (or late S2/951) hatches available every now and then in German Ebay for good price.

I was looking on ebay, but every time I check there aren't any. But will be looking. I like the look of this hatch with 68 spoiler. And have some time till i repaint the car.

Do you have pictures of your installed spoiler? Did you have to fabricate any brackets? Tell me more about what you had to do to install it!

Yup, I looked on ebay.uk as you suggested and saw they have replica 968 spoilers. Why did you have to do fiberglass work? And can you do a quick run-down of the steps to install the kit?

Finally, do you think it's possible to only install the 4 pieces of trim and not the wing? I like the low profile look, but don't know if that will leave unsightly gaps that would otherwise be covered by the wing.

I did not have to do any glass work.
first you remove the old spoiler.
next I mounted the middle trim piece, just center it and attach by drilling holes into it from underneath through the holes in the hatch and attach with regular wood screws.
then u tape on (temporarily) the side trim pieces and set the wing in top of the whole thing.
the wing attaches to the side pieces, so u need to mark its position so u can drill the holes for the screws going into the wing.
then u attach the wing to the side pieces and attach those to the car with the supplied screws.

it comes with instructions and is rather straightforward.

u could easily leave the wing off and just run the trim only...

Not great pics but this is the one I got from UK ebay and it's pretty good, especially for the price. Once we had it sprayed it looks very nice. It's attached to a lexan hatch but gives you a bit of an idea.
