Question Need advice, buying rings, bearings ect for engine rebuild

I have the engine ready for the complete refresh, first this is an engine that was running without problems, just want to do a complete engine rebuild to make sure. I am going to change headgasket, main bearings, rod bearings, all seals, complete head work, piston rings, heads studs, water pump and timing belt job. I will take the block to machine shop to see is at spec and do a honning for the new rings. My question is where is the best place to get this parts?? Also what is best to buy factory porsche and what can i buy aftermarket?? I was searching the piston rings post, which are the best one?? My car would be a daily driver (no track use) with minor mods: Lindsey MAF, K26/8, 951max chips, 3" exhaust, boost controller (17 psi max), 38 dual wastegate, 3bar regulator, new inyector 55lbs and new HP fuel pump. Also new clutch. Should I buy a complete rebuidt kit or buy separate this parts?? Thanks in advance

do not HONE the block. If the bores are clean, you can get a shop to do a finishing pass, with felts, oil, and paste; this will expose enough material; some people install new rings in old bores, I'm just not a fan of it.
Paragon first choice, LR has a complete kit that even has the proper loctite, then EBS. Aftermarket rings are available for $100, Porsche ones are $400.

Goetz is what most people carry, aftermarket bearings are from Glyco.

Good thread as i'm sure this will be in my future. Eatiles thats a nice list of mods, do you plan to do the engine rebuild yourself?

Ski, could you clarify. When doing a finish pass on the cylinder walls are you saying it is then ok to use new rings or would you do a finish pass on the walls to freshen the block but still use the old rings. I think your saying finish pass cleans enough material off to go with new rings, just want to be sure. Thanks.

I have a friend who is a certified mechanic and he build several of this car already, He is going to supervise me during the process. I know that when you take out the rings you cant reuse them. I think He means for the new rings.

So is the aftermarket stuff acceptable better or worse then OEM?

I am currently rebuilding my engine and would like to know the difference.

I see that in Paragon the piston rings for the turbo are different from the n/a 944, in other sites they sold the same rings for every car (turbo and n/a), also note that the price in the paragon turbo rings is higher that the normal, what piston rings brand paragon sells for the turbo??
