Just alittle info, I took a bare shell to the scrap yard the other day. It still had a nose panel, windshield and rear xmember. It weighed 528lbs IIRC. I weighed my track car project sans engine and sparco seats (but with transaxle, torque tube, suspension, bodywork, wiring, full glass, metal doors, power window/mirrors, lexan hatch, cage, etc, etc) and it came in at 1716lbs. I figure I can probably pull another 2-300lbs out of the car if I got serious and I'll probably add another 500~ in engine/seats.

Currently has lap belts. Have just received racing seats and will install with 5-point harnesses. Yes, it is street legal.

Add arm tethers, window net (unless the seats are full enclosure) and a few other safety items relating to crash protection.....
I cant believe you let your son go out in something so unsafe and structurally compromised.
