Default 951 - NJ Registration question

yeah well, i tried the standard state inspection route (never again)

they claimed i had aftermarket ground effects on my car...ugh

my registration says "944" , not "944 turbo" or "951"....so now i can sort of understand where they might have been coming from thinking it was a mod'd 944

just wondering how a 951 is listed on other NJ registrations

FYI: they also put the car on the dyno like it was a front wheel drive and almost buried my car into the wall....Stay Away from Delanco and Southampton Inspection stations in BurlCo NJ

thx

I've gone through the station in Lawrence and in Flemington in my car and had no problems at all.

Are aftermarket ground effects illegal???

They obviously don't know what they're looking at (and they're on a power trip). It still amazes me that a lot of blue collar types (and others) still recoil at the "Porsche" name, even though most 951s cost less than a new Kia these days. I take it your car is an unmodded 951?

NJ registration just says 944. I always go to a private inspection station, just to avoid the state **** morons. For me, it's worth the $70 or so. The emmissions test readout also lists the 951 as a 944 (no mention of turbo) but, upon questioning the tester, I found out that the tester inputs 944 turbo when performing the test, but the results printout just says 944. If you have modifications, particularly those which affect emmissions, you're probably better off taking the car to a Porsche shop that does state inspection. They know the cars and can make adjustments (and perform the tests) in such a way that the car will likely pass.

I've heard that, starting next year, NJ will no longer require a rolling dyno emmissions test; just a test at a certain rpm.

Take your car to another inspection station (private or state) and you will likely pass if there are no actual problems.

I've had several 944's registered in NJ (n/a's, turbos, 942S, TurboS) and they all are just classified as a "944"

I had mine fail for a "lowered suspension" when I first tried a NJ state inspection.

I have been going to private facility ever since.

thanks all...as i thought

yup, it's private inspection from now on...ah well, so it goes

had the 951 'pre-checked' at ERF (emmissions repair facility) and all was well (after replacing the o2 sensor)

mods?? what mods
(mostly minor stuff...best stuff comes after the sticker)
