ive seen a 255 on a 7" rim! oh yeah it looked like hell though. Im running 245's all around on 8" rims and they are excellent- im sure 255 would fit but may look alittle bubbled depending on the tire.

Check with the tire manufacturer. For example Toyo has a chart for their RA1 tires as seen here http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/docs/To...Size_Chart.pdf. It shows the range of tire sizes suitable for specific wheel sizes.

Yes, 255's are fine...my RSA came from factory like that.
I've run 275's on an 8" rim and it's slightly an over-tire situation, but works out alright.

Tire Rack also shows recommended wheel widths for all sizes of tires. See Specs pages.

It's too wide for the rim, if you ask me; sub-optimal handling

What diameter wheel are we talking about?

For 16x8 I think 245 is the sweet spot.

I would recomend 225 or 245's. You might be able to get by with larger, but I don't think it is worth it.

I have 8" fuchs in the rear and 245/45/16 fit perfect. It came with 225/50/16 stock.
