Does anyone have a picture of an AIR splitter unmounted? If they mount up like the batwing (which I "think" they do) Then his version will be perfect!

Count me in for one.

We seriously have a run of what, at least 40 splitters if not 50. It's a lot of work, no doubt, but at least it would be worth your time, instead of a measly run of 5 where it's not really benefiting you to any factor.

"You build it and they will come." I'll jump on that list for a 968 bridge spoiler.

Well i got some quotes on pourable urethane and molding materials... looks like it will be $300+ to make the mold, then (gulp) $140 per gallon of liquid polyurethane. Theres some other pricey stuff involved, like wax release, to keep the mold from sticking. If it only takes one gallon to fill the mold, I can keep prices around what AIR charges, maybe a bit less. I'm going to order their starter kit ($40) and cast a mini spoiler. If im impressed with how that goes, I'll save a little cash and start doin some big ones.

oh and *if* i ever do 968 spoilers, they'd be made of polyurethane too. but not the flexable stuff, the solid stuff.

Good luck with this and thanks for the efforts in doing this. I've been suggesting something like this for ages and it took someone to actually do it. Keep us in the loop. There's obviously good interest which will give you some faith in the project.

What color will it be? If it's possible to make it with black plastic, it would be cool to leave it unpainted (and not worry about scratching it and rock chips, etc.)

A gallon should make a good number (3 or 4, minimum) spoilers, I would think, assuming you aren't going to make them solid! lol Think about how much ground a quart of oil would cover if you poured it on the ground, the urethane coverage should be about the same. Just plan a few ridges (think of how the A/C delete brackets are made, same concept except you would need a solid covering on one side) and build up some extra material on the back side of the mounting poinmts for strength.

AIR would likely have some issues with you grabbing their splitter and just making a urethane copy of it, so I'd suggest getting some carveable foam, make your own model, cast a mold from it and then you can go into production. There are a couple of improvements that could be made, like a better leading edge, some air relief in the bottom, etc. The 968 splitter is the unit that you should really copy, its a better design, easier to mold and will cost less.

Regards,
