Default Magnacore Wires -

I just installed a new set of Magnacore wires today. I used ample amounts of dielectric grease and pushed straight down on the plugs - no matter. One of the spark plug boots tore where it transitions from vertical to horizontal anyway. Needless to say I was very unhappy. I called Magnacore and they said to email them a pic of the tear and they would probably send me another boot under warranty. Any other similar experiences? Nice to know they stand behind their product though.

I've been using the same set for 3 years. They have been taken on and off many times, and I wasn't shy about abusing them in the process. They have been doused in water(I was testing something for a customer, don't ask lol), pulled, tugged, heated, overheated and still work great with no rips or tears. I don't use any dielectric grease either.

When they were new I had to be carefull installing as they snapped on hard but after a few times I was able to snap them on and off by hand. Sounds to me like that boot on yours was defective for some reason. It should not tear that easily.

I use Magnacor and won't use any other plug wires. Great company and product. They even do custom applications for a VERY reasonable price.

I have used them for several years on two different cars. I am gentle when putting them on and off, and yet several of the boots have torn/cracked. My next set will probably not be Magnecor.

Had the same problem with a 3 month old set of magnecores trying to remove them very carefully. IMO they are junk and will not buy them again.

Same problem here. Great wire, terrible boots. I ripped them by hand, with a snap on coated wire remover, and just about everything else I tried to get them off. Swapped them out for the Kinsborne wires with Buru connectors a few years ago.

I had two sets of the Mags and sent them all back. Magnacore replaced all the split boots for free and now I have them on a car with a spare set for future boot tears.

Reading these replies make me wonder how the same reliable wires/boots I have came from the same company....I was really rough on mine. When I first got them I used long needle nose pliers to install and remove them until they lossened up enough to do it by hand. Whether by hand or witht he pliers I did alwasy only put pressure on the larger base portion on the boot and never on the smaller diameter part nor on the wires themselves.

Also last winter during one of my project I had the intake and dist with wires on a shelf. When I grabbed something from the back the intake slid off the shelf but was caught by one of the wires that had wrapped around it. The wire was fine even after that.

I've used Magnacore wires for years and on multiple cars, never had an issue.
Would it be possible to post pictures of the damaged wires?

Hmm, that's real weird. I keep occasionally hearing people refer to their Magnecore's boots tearing. I've had them on several cars and, on the 951, I sometimes used needle nose to pull them off and I have never had problems with the boots tearing. I'm usually pretty careful with them but, they certainly don't seem anywhere as fragile as some people are saying. Are you sure you guys aren't using a ball peen hammer to install them and vise grips to remove them?! j/k

Never a problem, I could be wrong, but IIRC the instructions stated NOT to use dielectric grease. Don't see how using it would cause a problem.
Perhaps someone can correct or verify this.

I've got Magnecores on my car (installed by the PO) and haven't had a problem thusfar. I'll also occasionally remove using needlenoses and so far no problems *knock on wood*

Give these wire a go - Kingsborn. They use a spark plug end that fits into the factory BERU rubber boot. They also have very high quality wire.
