You don't wanna do this, IMO it's a waste of money. My car with a K26-8 and Greg's car with a K27-6 were basically dead even. I doubt a K27-8 will give any more real usable hp/torque, it'll just give you more lag. Save your cash and put it towards some sorta Garrett turbo.

Doc, was your K26/8 able to hold boost to redline? up to 18 PSI? My K26/8 is able to hit up to 24 PSI, but it doesn't hold... I go to 13 PSI by redline... I've got a Blitz SBC-ID and a Tial wastegate... I was looking for the K27/6 or k27/8 to hold 17-18 PSI to redline.
At the dyno day, the general consensus was that the K26 compressor just ran outa steam... The other option is that I have the wastegate lines backwards...

Nope. I was running 15.5 psi and it'd taper a little at redline. That was with a tial 38 and Greddy ebc. Turbo was fully spooled at 3000 rpm tho.
If you didn't already have a K26-8, I'd say the K27-6 is the way to go...

i was running 18psi on my 26/6 the other day and it would hold on the highway till i let off- not till redline but i wasnt pushing it that hard. I would hope that a 27/8 would give you usable power.

i'm still waiting for a price quote on the kkk turbos.
i really don't think they're the best bang-for-buck anymore vs. a garrett dbb. my garrett hits 18psi by 3krpm and has no problems holding over 25psi to redline. and this is with a #10 hotside.
a similar #10 kkk would be lucky to see 18psi by 4krpm.

That, and I want to do as little as possible. my goal is set for 300 RWHP... and I stop (I hope). I'm 20 away. and I've decided on a K27/6 for reasons of spoolup. I've found a reasonably priced core... (thanks Josh!) and that's what I'll be converting.
Is this a conversion I can do at home? can I buy a cold side and compressor wheel and go nuts? or is this a professionals only, special tools required thing?

Reno is dead on, there are a few extra parts required with a new turbo, but you knew that.
Black944turbo, I have the goods to make a good 26/6 but I'm sitting on them for a small court claim. Best way to contact me is through PM or email.
