Hey There,
I wanted to show the list the progress I'm seeing recently on my Stone Grey car. Needless to say I'm getting excited after 2 1/2 years of stripping things and saving, the chassis is finally strait and the prep/paint stage will be done by the end of April
This is how Crush looked when I bought it:
and here's how it looked as of yesterday:
I have a flash gallery of what it looked like durring the 30 month odysey, for those who are interested.
Gallery
I was able to find a doner from Shaun (Boostfeen)in the same orig. color for the passenger light bucket and the shop (Precision Frame in Santa Rosa) grafted it in. I also got the hood, ft. bumper cover and pass. fender from that car.
I had taken it as far as my skills could acheive and now the pros will have at it. The doors will be blended and cleared as well as the pass. side rear quarter. Otherwise, the paint on this car was a 9.5/10 before it was hit. Big ups to those who helped with tips on door trim removal - That was a new frontier for me.
Cheers,
Matt

Yeah, it sure doesnt seem like much progress in 30 months I have to say in retrospect. You have to consider keeping 2 other 951's running for 2 of those years is enough in and of itself.

Michelle: first things I sold - too blingy. I had them on my red car for a little while and I got 2 tickets in a months time. I wish I'd known, I'd have traded you for your Stickley piece!

What was the quickest and most effective way you used to strip down the pain, primer and filler (if any).
I don't want to use sanding disks/pads, since i don't want to touch the bare metal.

Hos:
There is a product in the US called aircraft stripper. It's available at most auto body or general good paint suppliers. Use gloves, a plastic scraper and a mask as the stuff is major nasty-toxic. I understand some pro shops have some sort of system or machine to make it go quicker/easier. Yeah, sanding it off is for the birds. I dont think it will liquify body filler and my experience has been that it will leave the factory primer, but remove top color layers.
Your generic "Jasco" paint stripper from Home depot will work, it's just slower and requires more of it.

Wow! That is a beautiful car! I am glad to see that you have spent so much effort in putting it back together. Please tell me those speedline wheels are going back on it after its done?

Wow that car is really coming along? You are making some good headway pal. I have to though that I love the rims you sold, for those were the same RH 3.6 rims on my old car. Then again I am all about bling. Good luck with it, looks great so far.
