This is something that interests me as well. I want to break the 200mph mark as well. I think the car is well equipped to do it with the much taller 968 turbo S gearing and shafts. I should be making enough power with my setup.
Where does MPD47 plan on doing this? I want to make sure I get the speedo calibrated and buy the proper instrumentation to have an accurate reading since it will be questioned by many.

Been there, done that
210mph
Marc, where did you do this run and what was involved? I guess its better to discuss this in person since I am quite serious about doing this in my 968 turbo S as well.

Anybody seriously interested in running at bonneville you will want to buy a rule book. They are $10
The safety requirements are significant
http://www.saltflats.com/cgi-bin/sto...=Books-N-Stuff

For the 150 club you need.
-firesuite,gloves,shoes,collar,SA200 (or newer),arm restraints
- 4 point roll bar, 4point harness (recomend 5pt), braced seat back, 5lb extinguisher, etc,etc

I don't know what else may be required for faster than that.... I have not recieved my rule book yet

I will try to say this yet again, look at the audi 01E diesel trannys, the end gearing will let you hit over 200

----------------------------------

3.50 1.89 1.32 1.03 0.86 0.73 ** CBM **#
3.50 1.89 1.32 1.03 0.86 0.71 CRB CGR
3.50 1.89 1.32 1.03 0.81 0.68 ** CBN
3.50 1.89 1.32 1.03 0.81 0.68 DSY EDU
3.50 1.89 1.32 0.87 0.67 0.56
3.50 1.89 1.23 1.07 0.73 0.60 FPN FRL 31/8 (3.875) R&P.
3.50 1.89 1.32 1.03 0.86 0.73 FRE 35/8 (4.375) R&P.
3.50 1.89 1.32 0.93 0.73 0.58 FPP FTT 37/9 (4.11) R&P.
3.75 2.05 1.32 1.03 0.71 0.56 ENV FTM 35/9 (3.89) R&P.
3.75 2.05 1.41 1.07 0.86 0.73 See R&P Note below
3.75 2.05 1.23 0.93 0.73 0.60 See R&P Note
** both sets of ratios are listed for S6 V8 6 speeds.
**# DGV listed for A8 1994-> Includes oil pump & wide 1st gear
R&P Note: AllRoad has 35/8 (4.375) - other 01E has 37/9 (4.11)
Most A4 gearboxes have different R&P ratios.
As far as I can see, the A8 Quattro 6 speeds have internal ratios matching those above. The A8 NON-Quattro 01E gearbox has some different ratios but I can't tell if the parts are interchangable. I'd guess not.

How about you rent the track out at Daytona? Then that mark can be hit on a legal and safe place. Now that is an awesome track to race on, let alone come near or break the 200 mark. Things go by pretty fast at that speed pal.

Raj, you'll have to PM mike as we'll taking different approaches.

I'm trying to figure out a place to do it where you don't need all that crap. After all my BMW will hit just over 200mph once the governer is pulled off (and that's on stock everything). The GTR will be in street car form for the run and all the crap bonneville wants turns me off. What happens to cars that can hit 200mph in stock form that just want to stretch their legs without ripping out the seats, installing braces, fire systems etc?

go to

http://www.openroadracing.com/html/200mph.html

I am preparing another 928 to exceed 220 mph at about 600 rwhp.

a 944 T has better aero potential and can reach or exceed these speeds with the right engine/trans config.

would love to see some more porsches out there!

Any questions, let me know

I was at an indicated 170-171, which translates to about 162-165 taking into account speedometer descrepancies. Even if I had the power to go to 7800 I would only be at a max of 180-185 indicated. There are very few 951's that will turn 7800 for a 2 minute stretch without exploding
Tire sizing has a lot to do with it too, and your 16" cup 1's have significantly less overall diameter than a 295/30R18 (I can take a photo for anyone who is interested, I have both sitting here).

@ 7100rpm a 968 01E (3.180, 2.00, 1.440, 1.110, .910, .780, FD: 3.780) with the above mentioned tire size:

1st: 45mph
2nd: 72mph
3rd: 100mph
4th: 130mph
5th: 159mph
6th: 185mph

As per your second question, no, it doesnt take much room at all to hit 170+ and my car is quite stable up there. Though a bit less camber and front toe would help a lot as I'm running quite the aggressive setup. I have no doubts Gabe will do it next year, I'll say my car will be capable of it, but that's where I'm going to leave that discussion.

i will be running bonneville this year....... but only planning for 150 club meaning must make 2 runs 150-160 same day.

Not a stretch, but I am goin to do it on a completely stock longblock and 26/6

I watched a pretty cool documentary about Bonneville and they were saying that the car is never stable and that it is constantly sliding around on the salt.

THAT IS *****!!! to do top speed runs in that type of enviornment.
