Default No boost gauge problem... SOLVED

went out driving today as its 60 degrees outside and the car is running so why the hell not! Got into some of my favorite twisties and found that i had no boost, gauge would go to 1 and sit. I pulled over and saw that the intake boot had pulled loose of the front of the turbo. I dogged it home and bought some new clamps, re-installed everything and took it for a test drive. Now i have plenty of boost again- takes off like a rocket ship- but my factory gauge still only goes to 1 and sits there, even as the boost comes on strong and the car is launching. For reference the motor is all stock besides clutch and wires. New turbo. I wouldnt worry much about the gauge working but up until now it worked fine and would swing over towards the 2 when on full boost. Any ideas? I looked and the clear line going to the intake is still attached, no obvious cracks breaks etc...i just put the computers back in completely the other day but the gauge was working until today, plus it still registers up to 1 which is really zero i know so...whats the deal?

You sure its still getting full boost? My car ran like that when I first got it, the 1986. It was running in limp mode.

not sure why i wouldnt be getting full boost- certainly feels like it. I checked the engine bay side of the hose and it was fine. Havent torn the floorboard back out to check the other end yet- seems like if it was that it wouldnt be getting any reading at all though right?

What would make? I'm hitting about 1.4 bar on the gauge.

1.4 is around limp mode... when its getting full boost it should almost touch the 2.

Limp mode you will get boost, just not much. I measured it with a gauge, and it came at to around 4-5 PSI of boost. The car was faster than the N/as without a doubt, but the feeling of boost was no comparison to limp mode.

I didnt know it was running in limp mode because I had never driven a 951.

Limp mode happens when the car has a problem. It will run in limp on knock, or if the cycling valve is trash.

ok so this morning i checked around and the small hose w/ the metal J bent under the back of the intake boot was off- messed around awhile and finally got that back on, re-checked everything i could see and test drove the car. Still only getting 1.4 on the guage which i guess means its still in Limp mode. How long does it take to reset the limp mode. Ive turned the car off and started it back up but that hasnt worked so far - do i have to drive so long before it resets or something?

i disagree. 1.4 is not limp mode...depending on condition of your wastegate etc 1.4 is possible. quite possibly you have a leak somewhere.

1.2 is limp mode.

i dont know what bar limp is supposed to be- but my WG was working great until yesterday. I'll tear the floor out tonite and see if the line to the KLR is ok still, i may have to crimp the line to the WG and see if it goes full boost or not. I cant imagine everything went wrong all at once! Time for an aftermarket gauge i guess as well.

Have you done any engine work lately? Venturi delete? Cycle valve nipple broken off? Thesmallest leak I found was the one under the throotle body but it used to keep me less than 1.4 bar. Not 17psi is no issue at all. Do the pressure vac test and listen for the hiss.

havent messed with anything lately- well besides having the whole motor out- but i left the intake on this time. Car has been running great and then nothing all the sudden. Found the boot on the turbo came off- then i left one of the hoses off- i think for the charcoal canister- but still nothing. I'll have to do the pressure test to it- see if i can find some stuff to make a pressure tester.

ok so messed with the car some more tonite and figured out that -

1. the gauge should be at .4 when at an idle and it was at almost 1

and 2. the gauge only goes to about 1.2 at full boost

so i pulled the computers back out today and re-checked everything and low and behold the line to the klr had come back loose- i guess the line pulled on the bolt and untightened it and it was leaking off...oh well all is good again in boost land.
