Default Flip-front 951?

I can't seem to find anything about any ever being made, but has anyone seen a 944 with a front clip that flips forward, ala Jag E-type style?
I'm thinking about looking into it for my 951... I think it might be pretty sweet, and talk about access with the whole front end exposed!

I've seen one on an V-8 powered car somewhere on the interweb. GT Racing has a one piece front end made for racing. It's made of fiberglass and will set you back $965.

And it will never look right on a street car...if you have a body shop fit it, be prepared to spend huge dough, even then it won't be street worthy.

Not so sure if the one-piece kit is the one we'll use, but the work will be done in-house on as much as possible. My p-cars don't get a whole lot of road time anyway, but I do want it to look good. Just seeing if there has ever been something like that done before.

Guns, fiberglass not street worthy? Please, that stuff NEVER cracks or chips .
I think it can be streetable, if you protect it right and build it sound. More for concept than anything...

Thanks for the heads up on that front end SeaCay From what I hear about their parts and fitment, Guns is probably right about it fitting right... Pain in the a$$ I'm sure...

Don't know anything about this car... had the picture in my 944 folder, which most of the pics are from rennlist. File is called DaveC, so I assume that is the username of whoever owns this.

Barry: I wasn't speaking of the fiberglass per say as much as the one piece front end from GT Racing, ask John Vitesse and he'll tell you - its a bear to get on and get it to line up.

Now for a custom project? Hells yeah I've always wanted one of these but just have never had the time resources to undertake such a project. Not saying it can't work, but just be weary of that particular GT piece. I'm a big fan of a bunch of his stuff - just not this one.

I remember that car, twin-turbo LT-1 or LS-1...it was very well done with a complete front tube frame.

Just a crazy thought , but why couldn't you weld up the hood to the frenders and hinge the front?

You know I've always thought about doing that too. It's just so damn expensive and would be major custom work. Get a hell of a break on the labor rate though. lol.

Oh, that LT1 951 is nuts. I remember that car. It's what gave me the idea.

hhahaha, does it really?!
Thats EXACTLY what I'm looking for... Great picture! Any more of this car? Might not tube frame the front, but probably triangulate some kind of brace though.

That picture really set it in stone for me... Thanks!

PS.
Don't see much of headlights on that one... I was thinking about somehow leaving the lights separate from the front end flip, so the front would sit back down on it, otherwise I can't really see how you could keep the flip-up lights with the bar and motor...

I once owned a GT-6 that opened in the front, you could get at everything in the engine and front end. It would be nice to make a one-piece fiberglass front-end that would allow for a large oil cooler, larger intercooler, hood vents, lights, fender flare for larger tires and brake ducts. Then if you get hit (or hit something), you replace the front section as one piece. Sounds like it would cost an arm and a leg but it would be a nice item to have on a modified car.

Just was looking at GT racing and they have the entire front with the hood in fiberglass. Look at page 4, item 296.

296 --TransAm ONE PIECE FRONT with HOOD . . . . . . .965.95
This one piece front clip includes: fenders, hood/front bumper/
spoiler and air dam, 71'' wide track. (Avg wt 26 lb).

if you have to leave the struts where they are at, a flip front end would be pointless since you cant get to any more than you can w/ the hood. WOuld look cool w/ a forward flip hood but make doing belts a pain.
