how much octane do you get mixing one container with say 5 gal? Its pretty expensive stuff. I have filled up on 15gal 93 octane, 5 gal xylene and its about as much as that stuff for one container. That puts me at about 100 effective octane. There are race fuel pumps near me that also sell 100 unleaded octane fuel for 5.60 a gal. Not trying to insult you or anything just trying to find out options

My 89 is worth every cent of protection...
I have a 3 level ride system.
Heavy race is 103 using one can 20+lbs.
For a cruise up the mountains @17lbs. I usually mix it 3 to 1 to keep the cylinder temp down.
Otherwise its headgasket time.

Dude - is that stuff sold as being street legal?
If so, you are being taken for a very mislead ride.
Notice the container says "up to 107"
That's because fuel blending (without lead for octane number) is a weighted average.

I had blown my third motor way back when. A sample of my gas was sent out for evaluation. I had 104+ racing in my car with 93 octane. It came back...guess what...93 octane. The only thing that **** did was turn my plugs red. $25,000 motor down the drain. NONE of them boost anything but bull****. I found out the hard way.

Carp, my gas station with 101 just got their last 500 gallons from their distributor then no more. So I have suddenly become very interested in octane boosters.

Did some google research...

From several sites quoting octane test with boosters most use 91 to start with. When they quote how many points it increases octane it means 0.1. This highest was one called Dyno-Tab and it raised 91 to 92.7 claiming 17 points increase, 1.7.

European Car Magazine posts similar test results with octane boosters AND includes toulene as what they call Home Brew. Starting with 91 octane they show 30% toulene raising 91 that measured 92.1 to 95.5. 20% raised to 94.1, 10% 92.9.

There is one called Octanium that claims to raise 93 octane to 100 octane and calls itself concentrated race gas. It is $20 for 32 oz. Site does not say how much to add per tank and/or gallon.

At this point I'm thinking of removing my rear hatch and rigging up a couple of barrels Mad Max style to carry my own 101 for road trips.

It looks like 30% or less is the magic number for Xylene mix. Where does one find such a product?

Xylene is harder to find, it's 'Goof Off'. You need to find a chemical/solvent seller to find it.

Toluene is readily available at your Home Depots and Lowes stores though.

Torco is a reputable company. I haven't tested it at a lab or anything.......
On the can it specicically says for using 93 octane with 32 ozs (1 can) to 5 gallons willl provide 107 octane.

Ok, what is the mix ratio for toluene? I have seen this at HD in the paint department. I run 93 octane and would like to put it around 96 octane.

I have to go back on what I said here.

I was at Lowes last night, a gallon of Xylene is ~$15.

That'll actually get expensive, as they said earlier you'd need a 20-25% mixture. 20 gallon tank of gas would mean $60 in octane boosting goodness

I got my xylene at the local vista paint store $ 11.50 per gallon, I used xylene in my car for over 3 years 20% mix, I was running 21psi of boost most of the time but in some cases I went up to 23 psi and I never blew a headgasket I wouldn't trust anything else specially a 20oz can.

It seem's to me , we have a lot of Chemist's on board

You guys are paying 6.70 a gallon for your home brew mix, you can buy VP103 unleaded , it pumps straight into your tank and is good for 125bhp/cylinder no issues , Oxy sensor safe etc...
It is oxygenated , so you will have to add more fuel , as you will be making more power @ the same boost pressure , but once adjusted your are good to go ....

Race fuel in not readly available for me so when I want to turn up the boost, Xylene is the option for me.

The people at the paint store think I am making meth, whats up with that ?
