I was heading home from DC tonight on a rather empty stretch of highway. There were a few cars behind me with one being practically up my tailpipe. I could tell it was a bimmer from the lights, so I accelerated away from the other traffic. He flew by and I thought that it was a new M3, it had the "shark fin" antenna and side grills.

So he slowed down and I continued past him. When I realized he was going to get on it I downshifted, putting me right in the sweet spot of forth gear. I hit it and seconds later he flew by a an outragous speed. He pulled much faster then my friends 400rwhp Z28.

Can a new M3 do that, or was that most likely a new M5? I would have thought my hp level would almost hang with a M3, but that was a massacre!
It did seem a little bulkier then the M3 though.

How much rwhp does it take to equal an E46 M3?

Last summer i overtook an E46 M3 from a full stop till i hit 240kpr, the M was 2 car lengths behind me, and my car was stock.

Probably it was the new M5

I've tried to hang with E46 M3s from highway speeds and have gotten a nice walk in the park. For our 3rd and 4th gear they, in my opinion have better highway pulling ability. I'm running chips, 15lbs boost and LBE.

Also dont forget there are some sick mothers out there who add blowers to thier M3s

Your dyno means you will never get spanked by a stock E46. You torque is MUCH, MUCH higher.

If it was a E46 M3 there is something wrong with your car, if it was a new M5 than your car is running properly.

Huh? Are you sure? Isnt a stock 951 about 217HP at the flywheel? How are you outrunning a new M3 with 333HP at the flywheel? I always wonder when I hear kill stories if the other car that was killed was actually racing or even trying or if I am reading a CIVIC type kill story where they brag about killing cars they really shouldnt even be close to cause the other car wasnt really racing them.

I raced my friends new Comp Package M3 last week so I clearly understand what they are capable of.

i've raced an E36 M3, and walked it from behind, raced an E46 M3 and it was basically a stalemate.


raced an E39 M5 with what i think was a dinan stage 2 kit and was wasted real real bad.


vs an M3 with your mods you should have at the very least stayed even, if not beaten him (cuz i'm sure you weigh less than i do).



on the bimmer note, a new 330i tried to race me the other night.

Must have either been a M5 or very heavily modded M3. Either way he started from behind me and by the the time I gave up he was like 3 buslengths ahead!

I wish I could remember how many doors it had.

pinchi cabron......when you said you easily walked an M3 you were talking about an E36.....lol......now the truth comes out......I knew you couldnt kill an E46.......
