Well, there is a power to weight issue and also a drivetrain loss issue.

I think the weight on the E46 is about 3,400lbs or more.

Corvette C5's make 350 hp, but only about 280 of that actually gets to the wheels.

So 333 at the crank, what is getting to the wheels?

Also, tq on E46 is much lower than hp. Like 260tq at flywheel.

Bullet: was this the car????

In my modded 968 (albeit probably only 205-210whp), I was pulling on to the highway in second and a 6-speed was behind me. By the time I was at 90-100 (end of 3rd), it was as silverbullit said, an easy 3 buslengths ahead. Keep in mind that I have stayed even with a stock STi, 350Z with an exhaust, pulled on a 14psi MR2T then stayed even at 16psi, and have played with numerous other cars. At 230whp, maybe 250whp, I have no doubt that the E46 M3 would have pulled, maybe not that much, but some. The new M5 would have been a slaughterfest, low 12's, high 11's factory. I have tried to toy with a new M5 on the highway and the owner just laughed and returned to his cell phone . The older E39 M5 isn't that terribly fast. An E46 M3 with a good driver can easily pull an older M5, infact I was there with an exhaust/intake/software/SSK M5 when it happened.

Hmmm, the MZ3 i drove felt like hitting a brick wall once i hit 210kpr, the 951 does extremely well at speeds over 200kpr.

todd- I'm pretty sure it was the new M5. Plus no supercharger whine or turbo intake noise.... just super quiet and smooth power.

Hosrom,

I am unsure of how fast 210kpr, but my experience is that they are strong until about 135-140mph, about the same as my 968. I agree the 951 has a lot left in it at that speed, but honestly I am rarely carrying on at 140 to care about the M3 next to me. Speed climbs so slowly at those speeds that I would much rather do the 60-120.

Wes
