Thumbs up Genuine Porsche Engine Mounts versus Aftermarket - verdict is in...

When I bought my car 3 years ago, I replaced the worn out engine mounts with the cheaper aftermarket type and the car vibrated pretty badly at idle (about the same as with the shot, old mounts). I recently did the belts/waterpump and took the opportunity to change the mounts again (damn, what a pita ) - this time using genuine Porsche mounts. The difference is amazing - smooth as a new car at idle! So, if you are wondering if there really is a difference between Por$che mounts and the aftermarket ones, you have at least this data-point. They are worth the (considerable) extra money.

Cheers,
Michael

Again I belive that there are no parts like factory parts. Factory parts always have so much engineering in them and the overall quality is always so high. (I work in engineering at a major manufacturer so I know 1st hand the resources that go into even the smallest problems)

I have a set of the Lindsey supermounts, they seem very solid and allow you to lower the engine height by removing 1 or both of the included spacers. They transmit some more noise into the cockpit (which would seem like a obvious side effect) since they are mostly metal with a small viberation dampener but the noise is completly acceptable. I'm very happy with them and would highly recommend them to anyone besides the biggest 951 purests.

There is some additional vibration transmitted to the cockpit/seat area. I dont have any hard data to back up the amount produced, but next time I take a drive I'll try to concentrate on it and give some feedback.

I agree 100% that the factory mounts eliminate a lot more vibration than the aftermarket sets. IIRC, the factory ones are fluid dampened and the aftermarkets are solid.

I have the Lindsey super mounts. They are by far better than the worn-out mounts that I replaced, but I have no comparison to new factory mounts. IMO, the engine vibration is minimal...very smooth running...and for the mouse that happens to wander under my car...and look up, the Lindsey mounts look very nice.

I have been through stock mounts, junk aftermarket mounts and now the Lindsey Supermounts.

I toyed with the idea of using solid mounts but was concerned that the vibration transmitted into the car would create new problems, so I wanted some isolation.

The Lindsey mounts vibrate my car at idle, under acceleration etc there's no problem. Mine is a stock race car that I also use on the street, so the vibration at idle doesn't concern me.

If I had a pure street car I would stick with the factory stock mounts, as they do all the right things ie control engine movement and provide isolation, and last a long time, even in race conditions. I chose the Lindsey so that I could get the 10mm drop in height otherwise I would have stayed with stock.

Never never use the aftermarket ones, no matter how tempting, even a warratny doesn't save you, as the real price is the effort to change them. Plus whats the good in a junk mount being replaced by another junk mount, even if you don't have to pay for the mount itsself?

Don't ask for OEM mounts. You will get aftermarket. Make sure you ask for genuine Porsche or Factory mounts

The real OE ones will have the Porsche Triangle P next to the part number.
