I have been told that all of the heat shields were originally yellow Zinc plated. My brake booster heat shield is definitely NOT the same plating as everything else. The plating is silver colored, but my engine compartment corrosion was pretty bad. Can I get some second opinions as to the type of plating? I want to re-plate it as original. Please help!

Yep, zinc chromate plated... the same as the tops of your strut bearings.

I have never seen a 'yellow zinc chromate' heat shield on any 951. All the ones I've seen have been the aluminum color. I may be wrong, could you post a pic of your 'gold' colored one?

I have removed and stripped nearly every plated part in there, and I could tell they were Zinc. I removed this heat shield and the color is completely uniform, and as the picture shows, it is silver not yellowish. Why is mine different from everyone else?

Does someone out there have the same color as mine?

The heat shield he is referring to is not zinc plated. It was never yellow. I have purchased almost every part on these cars new for a customer or myself at one point or another in the last 20 years and that one is always silver. The heat shields near the exhaust are zinc plated but not the booster.

Mine is silver. I've had it off and it is silver under the washers and on the backside where it rests up against the chasis. This would indicate to me that
it was originally silver in color.

Okay thanks everyone, sounds like it's unanimous. I'll see if the plating shop can tell me what it is and match it.

Steve that sure is a nice clean engine, I wish the PO's of my car would have kept it looking like that.

Thanks. I think it is clean because the PO probably didn't know how to open the hood! She took it to the shop for everything.

David - That is pure sex man!

Very nice David, I think I saw that picture before- looks (and probably is) bulletproof. I struggled for a long time deciding whether to make it shiny and colorful, or keep it stock looking. I decided on stock because it was all there and in pretty good shape, and I'm only doing mild mods. Maybe one of these days I'll get a project car and try some creativity.
