Lightbulb Intake Manifold heat

I just got home and washed my car, so i opened the hood to wipe off the water and the intake manifold is HOT. Anyone think/know if a wrap/coating of a heat reflectant would be beneficial? or is the heat coming from the opening at the head?

Just a thought, but I would like to know your opinions/knowledge!

has this been brought up recently? haha. I did a search but couldnt find anything. I found things on powder coating and paint/polish but all were for cosmetic upgrades. Im speaking strictly performance. Sorry if its been covered already, anyone have a link to the post?

I think the best solution is to insulate the bottom and leave the top bare to dissipate the heat that will be transferred thru the head.

Wrap you headers,cross-over pipe and turbo, this will help.

And I just had louvers stamped into my hood today, should allow more hot air out of the engine bay, picking up tomorrow and will post pics.

kwdrus, that is what i was thinking. Somehow block the heat from the bottom so keep it cooler. Any Ideas on material?

David, I plan to do that this weekend! how hard is it to do? do you need to remove them completely?

This stuff can be a little pricey for a street car but will do the trick and give you that cool NASA look

Or you can use

Do you think the adhesive backed wrap would peel after awhile if you ran the car often for long periods? I wouldnt want a gooey adhesive getting all my hoses and stuff all tacky.

How would you secure the gold film? any ideas?

I just wrapped headers,x-over pipe and downpipe.Underside of the intake manifold I insulated with material that's like header wrap wowen mat and has aluminium sheet on the other side. It's sold here in 1m x 1m mats.I glued it in with Sikaflex 221,it has something like 120 C melting point :

cool thanks for the input guys.

Does it make a considerable difference? did protecting the intake from heat help the performance?

Pete,

That works too. I imagine that the mat is similiar to the small piece that covers the access hole to the fuel tank sending unit. I used a woven mat like that on a friend's 5000TQ because the header was inches from the airbox/fuel system. Worked great.

Wouldn't the turbo be the main heat source in the engine bay?
