Default 2006 - 2007 951/S Calendar Project

I was messing around in iPhoto on my Mac and thought it would be cool to create a 951 calendar. After thinking about it more, I was thinking maybe I could have a voting type of system where you guys could submit pictures of your car and we could all vote on the top photos to go into the calendar. I know it's kind of ill-timed since it's already the middle of April, but I could still use a calendar at my office and I love showing off good looking 951's to my friends. Plus, we can start the calendar in May 2006, and go through December 2007 since we can have more than 12 months (though 12 is the minimum through iPhoto).

If you've not used a Mac lately, iPhoto does a very nice job with the photos and you can actually put more than 1 photo on each month's page, plus the cover photo, so technically we could have quite a few more than 1 photo per month. Maybe we could do like top 25 or even top 50 votes or something and then I'll just work up a nice spread and order them.

The iPhoto prices for calendars start at $19.99 for 12 months and extra months are just $1.49 so if it started it in May, there would be 20 months and it would cost roughly $32. Or we could just start working it up and getting photos together and have it ready for 2007 by itself, which would give me more time to make.

I can also export the calendar in PDF and you can have it printed up and bound on your own if you want (Kinko's could do this). I can handle all the orders if you guys want, or if you have a Mac, I'm sure it's easy to import the file for you to order separately if you wish.

Anyway, just thought it would be a cool idea. I thought about doing one for 924/944/968, but with only a few months/pages available, I'd like to do it strictly for the 951 and 951S models. I know there are a ton of 951 photos in the latest photo thread that could be used, but I'd want to make sure the owner of the image would want us to use their car in the calendar, plus we'd need a nice big resolution for quality printing.

What do yall think? Would there be any legal issues doing this? I wouldn't think so since these would all be our own cars, right?

Edit: Okay, I went scouring (sp?) through the 59 page photo thread and came up with a list of posts with pictures that I think would be perfect for the calendar. I looked for pictures with nice backgrounds with no people or strange objects in the shot, plus ones that show off the cars well and have good lighting, etc... I found some good fall and winter shots too! I'd like some more good track pictures to use for the late spring and summer months. I would need to have permission from the owner of the car, plus a high-res version sent to me.

Hate to put a damper on your project but was this idea not tried a couple of years ago? My recollection is that it quickly ran into copyright troubles with PCNA. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't recall, but is there a copyright issue with printing or developing photos of your personal car? Even if you were to pass out these photos to your friends/family? I would think that if we have permission from each of the owners of the cars, and no one is making any money off of this, then it will have no legal issues.

Danny,

I'm not a lawyer and I have no knowledge of copyright laws in the US, but I think that it becomes probelmatice once you begin charging $ for copies of said calendar. Again, I'm not sure about this. Maybe you could check with John D.

Take care!

I searched and found this thread from 2003. I don't know if this ever got done or not, but while there were questions of copyright problems with PCNA, I couldn't find a post saying they had to stop the project due to a copyright issue.

And please don't confuse the costs of having these printed with me charging for copies. In fact, I would rather not even handle any kind of ordering. I can create the calendar, then email whoever wants it the PDF file. If anyone wants to order it from Apple (or it may be Kodak who does the actual printing) then they can do that. That way, no money would be exchanging hands.

Cant see how they can if its free, you don't use the porsche font or badge or any copyrighted pics without permission.

That's what I am thinking... I don't see what the problem would be, it's like saying you can't take pictures of your own car and print them up! That's just ridulous. If you are interested in a calendar, I need your help to get the above photos in high-res. 1600x1200 or larger preferred.

Granted, I'd love to see this go, and I have some bitchin-*** photos to submit, but I don't think it'll happen.

Have sent my pics but they may not be high res enough - camera was on low res when I took them, I will have to wash the car and try for some more arty shots

I got your shots, and iPhoto gives me a warning that they are not high enough resolution to print on a full page. I could still use them on a "spread" page, but not full page. If you can take larger shots, that would be better. 1600x1200 is the minimum for full page prints.

I can dig up the high res versions of mine you picked over the weekend. Hope the project comes through!
