Default oil leak, Oil pressure relief valve ?

I've been trying to source an oil leak at the passenger side of the engine. Looking up from below there's a whole lot oil spray all over from the vicinity of the oil pressure relief valve and below. My question is would a leak from the valve bolt cause such a spray? Can the bolt simply be removed and inspected (whats the torque on it) ? What other source could such a leak come from in this area? Its clean and dry around the oil filter.

There are oil lines for your external oil cooler in that area. If you can't find the leak try cleaning the living daylights out of the area, drive around for a while, and then see if you get anything that leads to the leak. Good luck.

You can remove and inspect the bolt without removing anything else. Here is an excellent procedure. http://members.rennlist.com/tom86951..._seal_repl.htm This covers your torque question and includes some other information you may find helpful.

My car has the same problem, so I am going to replace the oil cooler housing associated gaskets. Another area I am suspect of is the lower balance shaft seal. The rest of the seals on the front end have already been replaced on my car.

Thanks guys, I already had the fornt seals done. I'm going to take your advice ,clean her all up and try to find the source. Maybe I'll remove the oprv anyway just for the fun of it - is there a gasket I need for this ?

I would check the Power steering resv ( under it where the hoses connect) and the hoses that go to and from
I had a lot of oil in that area and it was the PS connections
Hope that helps

There are a bunch of things that can leak around there -- the oil pressure sensor is probably the most likely leak, or the cooler line connections...

Your best bet is to buy some of the dye additive you put into your oil and after running the car for a specified period of time you will be able to use a blacklight and trace the source.

My vote is for the oil pressure sensor.
