Default toluene or xylene sources???

I'm looking for a little octane boost. I'm in a small town and only have access to a Home Depot (and a couple other mom/pop hardware stores). Would I be able to find either toluene or xylene there at Home Depot, maybe under another name or something (i.e. what should I look for)? I assume this stuff would be in the paint area?

Also, I believe I read here somewhere about using one of these to boost octane will also have the side effect of burning cleaner, as in I will be able to pass smog more readily this way. Is this true??? (smog test coming up very quickly). Thanks!!

Racegas is cheaper. Use the locator at 76 or Sunoco websites.

pole position - the closet 76 station to me (according to their locator) is ~90 miles and the best they have is 91 octane; closest Sunoco w/race gas is twice as far as that. I've looked into it quite a bit and the only higher octane stuff near me is leaded race gas or AV fuel. Willow Springs is also ~90 miles, so I would think I could get good gas there (track guys tell me - can I pull in and fill up my car, or are there some hoops I have to go through first, or even only for on the track???), but again, that's a long way to go for good gas.

eospeed - I will PM you.

Thanks!

Does VP no longer sell the 104 unleaded? Is the 103 the highest octane street legal unleaded VP now sells?

How is it delivered? How much does one need to order to get home delivery -- and is it super-expensive to ship because of its weight and danger?

And, while I'm asking, what's the difference between 103 StreetBlaz and Motorsport 103?

I would have to check the street blaze is legal the motorsport fuels are not but 103 is all you should need unless your running more than 25psi

HD has Xylene. I get it in 5 gallon containers from my local paint store.

Any paint store should have xylene, including HD. It's a bit pricey, but it does work quite well. Do a search, and you'll find a couple of good formulas to help with figuring out octane.

Try motorcycle shops in your area. They sell it at the pump here in Vegas but when I travel, I just stop at any motorcycle shop and pick anywhere from 100 to 114, just make sure it's unleaded. Xylene takes a toll on your fuel lines. If you start using it, I would recommend getting steel braided lines.

The stuff is usually 8 - 12 bucks a gallon, not worth it.

Depends on the individual, for me it is the perfect choice.

No race gas within 100 miles ( that I know of ) and I only want more than 93 pump a few times a year, so Xyelene for me.
