Default Dropped washer into bell housing - what next?

Guys -- Need some advice. Like an idot, I managed to drop a washer into the bell housing hole while changing the battery cable. What's the least painful way out of this mess?

Thanks
John

Chances are it fell through to the starter - pull the starter and then rotate the engine by hand and see if it falls out or is sitting there. Don't use the starter.

Sam -- Thanks. I'll give it a try once I regain my composure.

Also can try one of those magnets on a stick in case it landed somewhere near the hole.

Yeah, I just recently did the same thing while taking off my intake... I dropped one of the allen-head bolts and was looking for it for about half an hour. I finally gave up and said I didnt need it but I had a funny feeling it went through that hole. Sure enough, a day later when I went to take out my flywheel lock it was in the opening there, hanging over the edge.

My advice would be to take off the starter and rotate the engine with the 24mm bolt up front. Hopefully that will jar it loose if it is stuck in the flywheel somewhere and it will fall down to the opening. Good luck.

Magnetic pickup through the inspection hole on the bottom of the bell housing or where the starter attaches. Don't freak out, this is no big deal. Many people have done this -- it shouldn't be hard to get it out.

You can also try attaching a small magnet near the edge of the flywheel then turn the engine over by hand. If the washer is caught somewhere where you can't reach it w/ the magnet-on-a-stick, it may attach itself to the magnet on the flywheel.
