Artie, Great detail on the hardware info. I hope you will add me to your inside list for good sources of the component parts. Thanks, Wilfred

Default The LIST

Here is a diagram and a table of bolts, washers, nuts, etc. If anyone can fill in any of the "?" or tell me if any of it is wrong I'd appericiate it. Most of this information is courtsey of Pelican and PET.

After some searching it looks like we can put together a kit that is all stainless, with the exception of 2 M6 10.9 bolts. It will use copper lock nuts throughout. This includes studs washers bolts etc. to do a complete exhaust overhaul from the header collector to the tailpipe. Cost is about $50 delivered. What do you think?

Great work! Attached is a pic of my setup. Do you think I would be able to just get the ones that I need? For example I have the hardware for the wastegate mostly complete and I plan on leaving the downtube in place during the install etc...

Saturn Exhaust Stud
Ask for exhaust studs for a 94 SC2 and the part # is 11518152
Greg - I can't remember how much the stock studs stick out beyond the nut, but do these torx heads stick out very much more? I'm wondering if they were longer, would they cause even more difficulty in getting the headers in-place if the head was already on the car. I know many people put the head and headers in the car at the same time to avoid clearance issues. What do you think?

On the other hand, since these torx headed studs are so much easier to install, maybe you put the head on first, then slide the headers in and install the studs right then?

Which method do you suggest if using these studs?

Thanks!

Matt, thats the advantage of using the saturn studs, they remove very easily for times when you want to pull the header.

Good job on this thread (no pun intended!), guys. This is very handy info!

Matt - like Scott said, that's the beauty of the Saturn studs. Line up the headers on the head, get the stud started with your finger, put the torx socket on the end and away you go. My recollection is that they don't stick out significantly if at all further than the stock studs.

Awesome work, this is exactly the info I was looking for. I will gladly take a full kit whatever the price ends up being Artie.

Thanks for the stud info guys, that really sounds like the way to go!

Artie - I would like to replace my x-over bolts (M8-37mm) with stainless when I re-assemble, but I don't need any of the other stuff right now as my turbo & exhaust are still installed. Since I only need 6 bolts, should I just buy them locally, or do you think the cost savings would be worth waiting for. I'm guessing that simply shipping them to me would offset any savings though

Thanks for putting that list together, that's something that I'll surely reference when I swap the turbo & downpipe in a year or two!

87944turbo:

I think we could send you just the pieces you need, let me know which ones from the list you will need and I'll see what I can come up with.

SamGrant951

Great! I should be ordering this stuff in the next few days, before the week is over, I'll let you know what the final cost is, shouldn't be more than $50 delivered, but if it is I'll check back with you.

zerMATT951:

I would honestly just buy them locally, the savings is the biggest on some of the wastegate hardware and the copper nuts, so if you only need the 6 X over bolts, I'd get them locally if you can. If you can't find them, let me know, I'd be glad to send you some for whatever it costs. (few bucks tops)

Hope all this info helps! I like the saturn exhaust stud idea, I can't count how many times I've been in that predicament before, I have almost removed the head just to avoid dealing with header replacement with it still in the car, what a PITA!

PM me or post soon if you want a kit, thanks for everyones input

I am interested in a full kit also ... any clue how much of the hardware is interchangeable with an NA or can we put together an NA kit also?? I have an '83 with the exhaust off now. It would be nice to replace all of the hardware during reassembly.

Don:

As far as the NA goes, I'll have to look into that, there are far fewer pieces involved, so it sould be quite a bit simpler. Let me see what I can come up with, there's no sense buying a complete turbo set up then only using part of it.

Daniel:

Let me know if you would like one for sure, I'll be ordering sometime before the weekend.
