I am just about to put together a 3.0 turbo block but I need some piston squirters to install in the block as it came without them. Does anyone have any experience of this, and any recommendations on where to buy the 968 part which is not available through Porsche. I am told I can use the squirters from a 964 or 993 which are different lengths, has anyone tried this?

Are there any pros and cons to going with or without the piston squirters?

Squirters are essential safety precaution and it helps to reduce the possibility of detonation.
DON'T go without them.

Most 951's seem to manage ok without them?

Piston squirters are available form Kelly Moss….if they feel like it!
You won’t get any installation instructions….

Any tips Chris, how do you seal them into the block?

I reread the message – do you mean that the holes are there but somebody removed the squirters or that you have a 3.0 S2 block and you need to drill the holes? (S2 blocks did not have the squirters – only the 968 blocks)

I use Locktite’s sleeve retention product. Seems I have a lot of that around from the sleeving work!
The squirters are trapped in place, the main bearings will prevent them from falling out! It should be a close tolerance fit.

How much would it cost to convert a non-squirted block? The whole shebang including piston squirters and machining?

It is a 968 block, and as such has the holes for the squirters, but no squirters installed. Its a brand new block, I guess it was a from batch of parts that didnt come through the normal Porsche route and therefore doesnt have the squirters. It has the siamesed cylinders and cross hatching as well.

This is a picture of the factory installed oil nozzles in the 968 block. I don’t know if they are threaded or press fit in the holes. Interesting to now that this block comes without them.

Press fit – the squiters are smooth bore with a flange on the bottom end.

Cost to install? The squirters are about $50 each plus figure a couple of hours of machining time ($150) and shipping….it gets expensive pretty quickly!!

That really isn't too bad if you are having a bunch of other machine work done.

Do you think the results are worth the cost? It should reduce the chances of pre-ignition, correct? Is there any downside other than cost?
