GT Racing or AIR Splitter, that is the question
Can you guys post pictures and share your experiences with both. It will be on a 951 track car.
Also, if anyone is running brake cooling ducts via foglight opening, can you please post some pics as well and your source for them.
Regards.

I have theGT Racing splitter.
It seems that those that who wish to maintain stock appearance, prefer the AIR while I hear the GT is more functional (more downforce). On a street car, I would say the AIR looks better, but for a track car,the GT works better.

Raj: If you do a search you'll find a few good threads. There was this one thread that was pretty long. It had alot of pics, I mean a real lot. And people were talking about the pros and cons of both. If someone finds it for you, it's a great thread for you to start you research from. But for a track car, if I recall, the GT is the better "functional" of the two. That is the one I would definately go with if I did a track car. I know Special Tool has one of them on his car, but I can't remember which one. And he has tracked his car a bit too.

A splitter works by reducing the amount of air going under the front of the car, to create a lower pressure zone, (suction) and therefore a bit of downforce.
The GT racing splitter sits higher than the AIR splitter does. Therefore, the GT racing splitter actually does not do a better job of restricing under car airflow.
The problem with the AIR splitter is, it is TOO low if the car has been lowered, at all. If you drive in the city, in a lowered car with the AIR splitter, you are just begging to have it torn off within a year or two. (as was my case, even being extremely carfeul)
The problem is, the AIR splitter looks way better, compared to the simplistic GT racing splitter.
The solution that I have come up with, is to make my own splitter similar to the "essential styling" one pictured above. It is basically the same as the AIR splitter, except it is about 2cm or 1/2 an inch thinner, to prevent getting scraped on the ground as easily... yet it is still lower and looks better than the flat, 2D, GT racing splitter.
I just popped a prototype out of the mold and should have some pictures as soon as it's sanded down and mounted. please don't bombard me with PM's... I'll post photos as soon as I can and I'll let everyone know how many I can make.

additionally, the reason why most 951 track car owners go with the GT splitter, is because thier track car is probably TOO LOW to mount the AIR splitter without scraping the living crap out of it.
I still think the GT splitter looks butt ugly tho.

Look at the way both are constructed. The AIR splitter angles downward and, appears, to allow air to slide under the car, while while the GT is flatter it extends forward about 4 inches trapping the air that would slide of the front to under the car. This is how the GT generates more downforce. Since this is a track car, it gives you more clearance to work with on lowered cars.

Wow, thats the first picture showing the underside of the GT splitter. So it's just perfectly flat top and bottom? For anyone with an AIR one, is it like that on the underside as well?
