I know there are computer geniuses in here.
What is the smallest device (with keyboard) I can get to download datalogging data?
Do any of these PDA's have the ability?

They have one for a Palm PDA. Isn't this what you're looking for, or no? They just came out with it this past September 2005.

st, get a pocket pc.
there are tons of them, screen size is a tad limiting buy they ill do.
the are the size of a Palm but pack 10x the horsepower and would run those windows DL apps.
Now if you were a gear head -like me- then you can install a "embedded CPU" in the car. the size of a 3 cd's stacked on-top of one-another. Then add wireless to it and make it headless.
So you can leave the car in the garage and actually configure the car from inside the house.
no wires needed. I had this setup on my beemer for a while.
costs was below $100 for everything and best of all it was solid state, so it booted up in 5 seconds and did not crash once. I am working on something that will be even smaller. that will do the exact thing for you.
**PS you can get small keyboards for both the palm and the pocketPC's. if the stylist is not ya thing.

Interfacing may be your problem, most small PC's are USB and most hardware is serial, not all usb to serial adaptors will work with all serial hardware.

I have a Treo 650 and some random googling found a java program someone wrote for the Treo 600 on the SMT6. I'll try to find it. Might take some tweaking to get it to work on other pocket pc devices, but it would probably work. I'll post as soon as I find the link.

ST, do yourself a favor and avoid Windows CE devices. I develop Pocket PC (i.e. Windows CE) apps all day long at work, and contrary to popular belief...Win32 apps will not run natively on them. This means you'll need special software that could be hard to find.
If you can find a small laptop that's capable of running WinXP however you'll be able to run anything you can run on your desktop at home. You likely won't find something as small as the pocket pc's, but there are some pretty tiny laptops out there. I know I've got an older (pentium 3) IBM Thinkpad that is about the size of a 8.5"x11" sheet of paper & maybe 1/2 thick.

I then brought it into my workplace. It worked on ticket printers and bill acceptors for electronic gambling machines, well enough that we are now switching over from expensive serial port cards to using these USB adapters for our test environments. Multiple dongles per computer seem to work fine.
It also worked on the SMT6 that I had, I let that thing build up a huge logfile over it as well. Oh and it works on my Zeitronix.

i was at the dyno in atlanta a few years ago and this guy came in with a highly modded dodge avenger (he put down 379 rwhp). he had mounted a small pc in the trunk and wired up lcd panels into each sunvisor and a small wireless keyboard in the glove box. very cool setup, you can use it to tune the car plus use it as a navigation system, dvd player/whatever.
