What spring pressure is he running? 12?, 15? - My guess. It's an obnoxious problem.

Hey Tim, not waiting on a copy of the dyno chart, waiting for the entry to be formatted for the list so I can copy and paste it in...

I would also say that looks like a typical situation with low spring rate combined with EBC gain and 'set boost' set too far apart.

I forget what the settings were but I manipulated the crap out of the controller I am pretty good with electrnoic boost controllers. It was just on the dyno where we had issues. On the street it was fine and I had to back down the settings tremendously.

My car is waiting for a new heater core and we have a leak on the cam cover. We think we have a high spot and will machine the cam cover and make sure that the head is flat. This will be the third gasket that has split in the exact same place...........I think it breaks on the inside as soon as we TQ down the cover, and the crack slowly moves to the outside and then creates a little stream of oil falling on my exhaust. Creates a nice smoke screen!!!! Hate the little stuff that gets in the way of a great project.

We have done MUCH tuning using the TEC GT. The car runs really well, but we can't get over 20psi. We are going to work on the wastegate and see if we can set it higher. Turn the boost controller all the way up and get just 20.

Fast enough at 17psi on 91 fuel. My friends M5 V10 can't even think about keeping up.

Still working out a few things, but the engine is running very well.

Once the oil leak and heater core are fixed, we'll go to the dyno and do some additional tuning and hopefully fix the boost issue. We'll see better numbers than before.

Do you know what spring/s is/are in there? I don't remember if you have a Tial or not. If you have a 15lb spring, you should be able toat least get it to go a few psi higher than 20. If its something like a 10lb-12lb. This might be why you can't get above 20.
Or crazy enough, is the turbo out of air at that psi?

As Hank in Californication would've said; you modded the **** out of that controller!

The turbo is just getting going at 20psi on this motor. We are using the new Synapse non diaphram wastegate. I'm going to call them today and see if they have any ideas. We know it's a wastegate issue.

Thanks George.

I'm still pushing the wastegate spring issue though, only so that I might learn something.
Could you ask Tim what the Spring pressure is in the Wastegate..?

I'm waiting for a call back from http://www.synapseengineering.com/ to make sure that everything is hooked up right. The wastegate will hold the pressure, we just might have something hooked up incorrectly.

The little things give cost time, the big things cost money. This is a little thing that will be corrected. I've been happy having only 20psi boost. I run the car at one bar with about 420whp. The car feels very tame at one bar. Nothing feels stressed and it's fun.

We've got the tuning about perfect, have about 4K on the motor, and it's time to turn it up and see what 25-26psi will do on the dyno with some race gas!

David from Synapse just called back. There is an overboost safety bleed hold built into the Synapse. It won't boost past 20-23psi, (my case 20psi) until you put a M4 by .7 bolt into the upper hole on the wastegate.

Told they didn't want overboost liability to bite them financially. When you plug this hole, it's your controller that will control anything higher than 20psi.

Now they tell me!

I'll plug the hole and get the other stuff fixed. Hopefully end of next week we'll be at the dyno.

George didn't you have that turbo modified back to an a/r of .58?

Yes,

We went with a smaller hotside at .58 and ceramic coated the housing. The turbo was a tad laggy and we went with a smaller hotside. Think of a K27/6, but much bigger.

This motor/turbo boosts like a big NA V8. Plenty of folks have driven this setup, and have all stated it's power delivery is nothing like any 951 they have ever driven. We are trying to get it tuned so that there is no sudden hit, just linear power up to redline. Fuel here, timing there, tapping on the keyboard, do it again.......hold 4th gear at 10psi...**** we are flying...keyboard bouncing on my tuners lap....we will do the final tune at the dyno next week.

We've almost got the tune perfect. There is some lag prior to 4K, but the six speed at redline shifts at 4200/4300rpm in every gear, so it has to be a really slow corner while in too high a gear. I need more track time, but the little things we are still working on are getting in the way. I have over 10psi boost by 3300RPM, so it's not that bad. We could tune for the extra fuel for spool, but this is not a drag car....The higher gears, 5th and 6th have full boost by 3700rpm.

Good search or memory Pat!

George
