Default Big Black fit up

So you want to put on some Big Blacks or Big Reds...well here are a few photos of the Big Blacks that we just put on the track car.

Big Blacks, purchased used and had to have seals and dust boots, new Pagid Black pads would be installed. The calipers did come with a set of adaptor mounts for the fit to the 87 spindle. Seals, dust boots, pads, and new bolts - paragon products.

Rotors - are Zimmerman Cryogenic Rotors...yes they're cross drilled but they were the right price, from a 928 GTS that was sold before they were installed.

Also purchased were brake cooling ducts - Broadfoot pcs that LR sells and
9" x 3.5" ducts for the front from Pegasus Racing

...and yes I know the fit up picture the rotor is wrong, it was only for fit purposes. $1012 with all the above, including brake hose. I have a few pics, will add the rest as I find the disc. I have yet to change the master cylinder and I don't know if I will, as the car brakes incredible. I am going to install the brake bias valve to see what the rear does but the car just comes to a halt very quickly.

caliper size difference

928GTS rotor and 993TT rotor w/wrong hat

spindle, install new bearings and seal, install Broadfoot duct on three bolts.

trial fit

fit with wheel on and boy what brakes the car has now!!!!!

I just did the same brake upgrade this weekend except I was able to locate some S spindles so no adapter. I painted my calipers before putting them on to make them shiny. Shinier than the paint on the fenders!! Alas I didn't have drilled rotors though, saving for slotted rotors.

Redid the wheel bearing too. Those races are a freakin pain.

Yes they can be. I was fortunate on this one...or lucky because I was not when I did my 87 black one - it was a royal PITA.

I'm sure you do David with that 2.8L monster in there...!

Thought I'd share an update with the brake cooling inlet ducts and silicone hose from Pegasus Auto Racing.

Pretty straight forward on the install, I wish the power steering pump was another few inches in but the tire missed the hose by an inch...only!

the 951S and 89 calipers were radial mount, the internal pistons are the same but the frame is different, as you have 928S4 or 993 calipers, which use a smaller rotors and a smaller height pad . The big black ( big red) are from the 993TT or 928GTS(others too) use the larger rotor and taller pad. 928GTS rotors are a direct fit, 993TT require different hats but the non drilled 3.6 turbo rotor will also work here.

Are the calipers a direct bolt on affair with the 928GTS rotors? Will I still be able to run 16" wheels?

Brett, I thought the 3.6T was the drilled one and the 928 GTS was non drilled.
