Just was out in my car and niticed a "clanking sound" much like ping/knock sound I would guess.
Let idle in the garage and even when sitting still and jsut revving, was getting the clanking sound. And it coincided with reving of the engine.
Any ideas???

Is it a ping, tick, rattle, or knock? Where does it sound like it is coming from?
Lifters usually have a consistent ticking sound when they are going bad. Take a large flat blade and tap the cam tower. It should sound similar.
Injectors have a ticking noise and can get loud as the injector wears or clogs.
Knocking from the mid motor sometimes indicates wrist pin or ring issues. Tap just below the head with a ball peen hammer and it should sound similar.
Knocking from the low motor or oil pan sometimes indicates rod or main bearing issues. Tap just above the oil pan with the flat head of a claw hammer and it should sound similar.
Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks.
It is a low pitch clank. More like hitting with hammer as opposed to a screw driver.

It sounds, seems like it is coming from the top end/intake area. And it is pretty noticable. Which is why my first guess was something hitting or rubbing, but I don't see anything hitting or rubbing.

OK, I'll try it. I alwasy thought lifters where more a "clicking". This is a pretty heavy "clank" ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

And only does it at about 4-5K and up. When out on boost it is hard to tell or hear over the exhaust.

Well, tried the ATF. Might have helped a little. But I can tell it is definatly not Ping. And seems to be around the intake/head area.
Cost wise if this is gonna be bad, after just going through 2 turbos and a clutch in the last six months, which some of you might be aware of, SHE MIGHT GO FOR SALE. Just getting tired of it.

WELL if you are really afraid take you oil filter out and bring it to a GOOD mechanic and have him cut it open to see if there are metal shavings. My car had no shavings after running for a hour with the loud knocking noise. If there is metal then it is serious.

I would say this is the closest.

I'd change your oil, I'd never run atf in my engine. I doubt it's ever fixed anything.
You need someone who's experienced in these cars to diagnose the noise.
