Default Northern VA Wrenching this Saturday

Guys~
With the head on and the bottom end bolted up, this weekend I am going to try to get the oil pan, balance shafts, turbo, and intake system bolted up. If anyone wants to swing by for some wrenching this saturday give me a call (703)507-3406

Gee, now you offer to help when it's warm. Where were you this past winter when I was replacing my rear suspension in my 40 degree garage?? ;-)

Heh, I may not have known the true power of the 951 (ie.. I still had the 914)

I am in the Leesburg area, it is kind of far out, but I've got a great place to work on the car :-)

...and I'm lifting the head again to fix a minor coolant leak at the back of the head. Need to kick the a$$ of the guy that put the head on just a few short weeks ago

Sounds like the NOVA regios will be rockin with wrenchin this weekend. Just when the weather has turned nice, too.

Tony~
If you need a hand I will swing by, help pull the head, and pick those parts up.

Hey Eric,
I'm going to be busy working on my 951 this weekend too, sorry! Theres a good chance she'll be ready for Hershey after all...Just an FYI but that rear seat looks great! Thanks!

Get this - I finally got her running two nights ago!!! She didn't leak fluids, she didn't explode, and she didn't rip herself to shreds within moments of turning the key! Yay! I am having a problem with my AFR though, the motor appears to be running a little lean. Working on tuning that out with the SMT6...
You should hear the sounds it makes at 3000RPM....can't wait to hear it at redline!

Speaking of - Tony, Jerome, anyone local know of a source for 100 octane?

Thanks!

Hey Eric, do you know a guy by the name of Kyle out in Baltimore by any chance?

Anyway, I'd love to help out but I've got to go to be in Baltimore for a charity banquet with the girlfriend.

Andrew~
Yeah, in fact Kyle was talking about getting me your contact info the other day! No worries about this weekend, there will be plenty of other times to wrench. I am going to try and turn my engine re-install into a NOVA meet and BBQ.

Sounds good Eric. I never seem to be around enough to work on my own car lately, but I'll try to help out when I can. We'll have to get together sometime either way.

WooHoo! The head is fine!

After the recent rebuild, I had a nasty coolant leak that cost me a track weekend. It was impossible to see the leak site, but it looked like the back of the head. I was set up to take the head off this week. Eric was over to pick up some parts on the weekend, and he helped while I stock the inspection mirror everywhere it would go. No luck, but we managed to narrow it down to the area at the rear drivers side of the head gasket that is obscured by the AOS gear.

Pulled the intake manifold, and pressurized the cooling system [Note to NOVA guys - I now have a cooling system pressure tester].

Confirmed that ITS NOT THE HEAD!!. The heater valve block-off plate was leaking. Now that its off, I can see the problem. It was a dumb mistake, and its an easy fix. That plate is NOT symmetrical

Looks like I'm good for the CMP race at the end of the month.

Tony~
That is some great news! How does the pressure tester work? I might want to give that a shot before I put my engine back in the car.

Pressure tester is simple.
- set the clamps on the reservoir cap hole
- the tester has a balloon that is pumped up to 25PSI to seal the system at the cap
- the tester then pumps the system up to pressure
