I thought all 88 turbo's came with a 28 pin DME chip? The reason I ask is someone just told me they have 88 turbo but it has a 24 pin DME chip.
Thanks

I hear that you can swap them out...so that would explain that.

How can you swap a 28 pin chip into a 24 pin socket? Yes, a 24 pin chip would fit into a 28 pin socket but I would be very surprised if the pin-outs were the same.

Sorry, I should have stated. They swap out the brain boxes.

The circuit board jumpers must be changed.

Someone had a bad dme and install a early dme instead of what came stock on the car. The harnesses are the same.

Perhaps not...the change over was early in the 88 production. It is listed in the service manuals that they were 28 pin after a certain date. Sept 87 I believe. I have an early production 88 with a 24 pin dme.

Thank you, that is exactly what I needed to know. So then it sounds like not all of the 88 production cars were shipped with a 28 pin dme.

Can you explain how those jumpers would be changed for the 28-pin car to accept a 24-pin DME without problems?

(I asked a similar question here:
