How about one in the opposite direction –
Since I am building a 3.1 16v for the street car I have a ‘left over’ 2.6 sleeved motor (about 2k miles on it). What do you do with a nice motor like that? Why drop it in the wife S2 cab of course. Since it is a touring car and not a high rpm, high hp type car I will be using a little different turbo.
How about a To4E-46 ball bearing…..This combined with the lower gearing of the S2 should make for some quick spool up times. Keep in mind that the wife’s ‘daily drive’ is an Audi S4 so I have a pretty tough target to aim at in terms of spool up times.

Oh yes I do...actually,when this turbo was bought the dealer we bought it from said it would do 1000 hp on the Mitsu no problem...as we specified a turbo capable of 1050hp or so for the Mitsu. Seems like I got fooled on that one...so now the Mitsu needs an upgrade.

Skunk (and everyone else): I got back from the Turbonetics dealer here, now he would get back to me on Monday regarding 'which turbo does Turbonetics recommend for being suitable for a street 951'. Again in terms of engine size, rev range and rev limit. Now that he's waiting for a reply, i want to ask you Skunk (or anyone else) which turbo do you know (as in tried physically) would be very nice on a street 951 in terms of power, torque and curve range?

I 'feel' that he (Turbonetics dealer) has something up his sleeve but wants to confim this with them in the US so, i want to out-smart him i guess!!!

To really answer your question you need to honestly assess what street driving means for you. The typical daily driving varies greatly and as such so does the correct turbo. For example – I live out in the country where there are lots of curvy roads and elevation changes and very few traffic lights. 0 -60 doesn’t mean much and top end is not a concern – what I really need is serious mid range torque and quick boost delivery. If you live in the city then 0-60 is meaning ful and quite likely so is acceleration all the way to redline. This requires a different turbo.

My favorite for my kind of driving is a To4e 57. I can see that the 60-1 variant would make more top end HP but I don’t need that. The To4e on my old set up hits 350lbft of torque by 3500 rpm and holds it to 330 at 6000rpm. Great for accelerating out of corners – works nice on the track too.

So first figure out what is important and then match the turbo to that. Don’t fall for the max HP answer – that can really make for a crappy driver.

Chris, what boost pressure are you running with that T04E-57? I have a similar turbo and I wondered what boost your TQ figures were made at.

Chris: That is exactly my point, that's why my question was about hp AND tq UNDER THE CURVE not top end

Im not looking for power in the top end (the car wouldn't see the track, yet), im into acceleration, another reason for BB i guess (reduces spool time).

Why not go with TO4E Super 50 trim
with Stage III turbine ? This should give
even better overall performance.

I agree with JChen,
A T04E super 50 trim w/ stg 3 turbine in a #8 housing would be a great combo.
And you won't need to go BB for fast spoolup.

Check out this map.
Even if i change the VE their is not much change.

If you want i can do a few plots on this software i have.

Hope this helps

Andy: You mentioned that before (TO4E with KKK hoteside from Vitesse), Lindsey Racing, Speed Force Racing and a 60-1 HIFI are all TO4E's (except for the Turbonetics TO4E's which are replicas, so slightly larger).

Edman and JChen: Correct me if im mistaken but doesn't torque needed for acceleration, thus higher torque and holding it as high as you could to redline is what's needed for acceleration?

Does anyone have the 60-1 HIFI compressor map so we could compare the TO4E Super 50 to?

I dont quite understand what you are trying to say there Sam, but LR also use TO4B.

Lindsey Racing's Super 65 and 75 use TO4E's, Same applies for SFR's Stage 3 and Stage 4 and yes Lindsey racing also uses the TO4B's in their Super 61.

What i am saying is that if Vitesse uses the TO4E on a KKK #8, other vendors also use that same setup.

From what I can see in the compressor map,the "50" looks fine.... Somehow I just can't find the 60 HiFi-map....hmmm.....it should be here... (looking frantically)
