Default OIl pick up tube o-ring question

I took some pictures of the oli pick up tube o-ring to see if anyone else has seen this. The picture shows a ridge on the o-ring that is more pronounced on one side vs. the other side. The pictures shows the large side while on the opposite side (not shown) there isn't a ridge at all. So, that ridge becomes smaller concentrically. To me it looks like it got pinched and not alligned during installation. Would this possilbe cause a vacuum break in the oil line system and thus causing my oil pump to loose it's prime during cold startups?

I don't believe that ridge would have any significant effect of the sealing of the oil pickup.

Install a new O ring & just to be on the safe side,
add a dab of sealant.

That ridge represents the chamfer on the case girdle it bolts into that the seal over time "flowed" into. Check the pickup tube for cracks (mine had one) and make sure it's not loaded with any force when you go to preassemble/reinstall the oil pan - especially you going to mod the pickup in any way.

The tube I took out of my 83 engine had the same style seal with the ridge. The tube I took out of my 86 had the newer style that has no ridge. The new rings I bought had no ridge. I would guess there was a design change at some point.

I live near Piner high in Northwest Santa Rosa. About 10 minutes from Windsor. That would be fun if you'd like to stop by and check things out. I'm sending the pan and oil pick up tube off to Lindsey today for the update kit. I didn't see any cracks in the tube and the pan also looked good. They are going to double check things when they get there. I took off the 0-ring and it's still on the bench if you'd like to take a look. Pm me if you'd like to get together. I'd be fun to see your cars also!
