Mods??? My guess is that it had a large V8 under that hood.

Josh,

Commin' at ya' from Big D. Never heard or seen the car. If they had a Viper in the stable my bet is it would be someone from Bobby Arhcer racing. They have lots of racing vipers and Porsches and are in Fort Worth. If it wasn't them I begt they'd know who. Another possibility is Bob Norwood of Norwood Autocraft in Dallas. He's landspeed type of guy that does one-off turbo Ferraris and a 4000 hp 4-banker Acura funny car. He also built the only Porsche to be banned from PCA club racing - DOOM II. It was a Turbo 968 motor on a tube frame that looked nothing like a Porsche.

At any rate, I'd be willing to bet the car was not a 2.5l 4 cylinder Porsche engine.

Did it have JATO rockets on top? :-)

It could be a V-8 conversion, the ones done correctly dont require modifying the hood. You dont have to change the rear end either. One thing is for sure it damn sure wasnt a 140HP 2.5L motor.

He did say that it had a couple big AN type fitting connectors on it running toward the back of the car. That is why we thought the extra propane looking tank in the back was air shift or something. My bud said it still had cv's in it. Don't you have to change the trans / rearend for a v8. I take it you know this car Edge?? If you do I BEG you to tell me contact info.
Nope never heard of it, theres no way in hell the 2.5 liter engine is going to get it to 201MPH in 1/4 mile, thats why it has to have a V8.

There are V8 conversions that fit under the original hood. Those extra fittings are for a transmission cooler I bet.

To get over 200mph in a 944 would require.

A. Atleast 600bhp
B. Mucho revised suspention
C. A loon at the wheel

Not in a million years was that a porsche engine (thins side of a carrera GT lump)

Clearly it was a V8. And a maxed out one at that!!!

It could have been a highly modded 951 engine or turbocharged 968 3.0L engine. You could get 600 h.p. that way with the correct work done to it I'd bet. . .

I have friends that have not missed a single event, and oddly they did not see the car you're talking about. The ONLY 944/951 that has had results posted since the inception of the event was an '86 951 at the July31 - Aug 1 running of it. That car didn't post times anywhere near what you're talking about.

They make a big deal out of anything that breaks into the 200 club, so I'm really curious as to why these times were never posted. (How about that Hyabusa - 251.148 mph! - BIG *****!)

We'll see if they show up this weekend. I'll be there Saturday.

I've never heard of Texas Mile, but being from Dallas I should check it out. Where is Goliad?

The texas mile is a pretty fun event I hear even though I have never been to it I plan on going next year myself.

I would have to agree with brian in that if he really did run that fast someone here would know about it. The 944/951 world is a pretty small community and when someone does something that out rageous....well word get's around fast.

You said you know for sure it was a N/A so it would to have been a big v8 that's been heavily moddified to run 200mph in the standing mile. I have no doubt the hybrids board would know all about it.....so I am leaning towards the bs flag waving currently.

Cowboy, I wasn't saying BS just yet. What I was questioning is why the results weren't posted. Every vehicle that runs gets posted, as far as I know. Maybe I'm wrong. Like I said, I'll be there Saturday. If you see a red 951 with Kinesis K27's, it's likely to be me. Come up and say howdy. Let's find that car, because I want to see it too. PM me for my cell phone number, but remember Goliad is in BFE. The cell reception there is crap. Call me before you go down..

Alex, Goliad is SW of Victoria, basically straight down 59 from Houston. It's a long ways from anywhere you'd normally want to be.

lol. Damn what is it lately. look it's possible that a beast 944 like that exists and no one knows about it. It's just very very irregular. I didn't call you any names just awaiting further information before I know for sure.

You obviously have something against me so whatever. lol. I am actually kind of laughing. This was nothing personal at all. You posted about a 944 doing 200mph and N/A no less! Look that's a very very rare beast. I stand by what I said. Tell the guy to become part of the active 944 community and get online with the hybird guy's and rennlist. We would like to know all about the car.

You need to take a deep breath and chill out a little. I don't mean anything personal by it. I did not attack you in anyway. You seem like the type that's wound up real tight ready to pop.

We are all friends here. Post up about the car whenever you get some hard fact's....I as well as other's would be very interested to know specific's about the car. Take care of yourself.

If I see it Saturday you're for damn sure going to hear about it. I'll be looking, count on it.
