IIRC, Bob Norwoods 968 based Doom cars were in the 900 HP range

Did anyone save the original link or photo or whatever that was deleted by the original poster???

(I hate it when people delete the original post and then you have a 3 page thread and you have no idea WTF it was about!!!)

944 cowboy posted up about seeing a N/A 944 doing 200mph at the texas mile events. We told him it had to be a v8 conversion not only that but, a built one running some serious hp at that...he delined and said he knows what he and his friends saw...end of thread. We had some people supposedly checking out the car at the event but, nothing ever came of it.

In other peoples quotes on the threads you can see some of his posts and the content of the thread. I am sure he has his reasons for deleating his posts....namely I guess he found out that no 2.5ltr N/A would ever run like he was describing.

It would of been very nice to find out about the car because it sounded seriously badass. I dont know of another 944 much less N/A that has covered the texas mile clocking 200mph. So this would be something kind of historical. Its a real shame no one ever found out about the car and posted about it. Would of been nice to see it. Prolly the only v8 944 in texas that has gone 200mph...woot woot.

I rode shotgun with Brian at the last event this Fall; including his car we saw 3 944's- ALL turbo's. The guy from Corpus who ran the green 951 was a Mile vet and laid it down just how HARD it is to hit high traps speeds in the Mile. Aero's come into play in a big way in the mile, not to mention gross hp. I'm no expert, but this ain't my first rodeo, either. Never happen in even a THREE liter NA. Not even rockin' the NAWS and nitro fuel. I'll wave the bull puckey flag and anything short of a high strung, wound tight stroker small block. Hot Z06's were hitting mid 180's to 190's, and I know those cars are a bit more aero-friendly. Anyhow, luck and safety to all going. Knock 'em dead, Brian! Show 'em what the 4-banger crowd can do...

As far as the Bob Norwood engine goes, it wasn't in a 944/968, so I don't think really counts, but that engine got sold and I thought I heard it was going into a 968, so we might see something interesting yet. As for a 944/951, the highest output one that I have seen was estimated to break 600 crank hp and dyno'd (and I saw the sheet and the car firsthand) at about 515 rwhp, and was a black 951 with a widebody kit that was built, in part, by Clark Motorsport, in KC. This car was covered in Excellence, and blew the engine at Hallet in Tulsa.

If someone in Texas has a 200mph 944, I'd think someone could find some sort of mention or proof. Personally, I think some of the idiots from another forum are trying to pay us back. I'd love to see the 200mph 944 if it exists, and would be the first to shake the persons hand that built it, regardless of powerplant, as that is a major accomplishment. I did a bit of flow dynamics a few years ago and determined that you'd need about 800hp AND some pretty spiffy aero mods to pull it off.

Regards,

Regards,
I would be surprised if you needed all of the 800hp you suggest, but i would not want to be the driver I a very unsure of how a 944 would react at 200mph. Anyone fancy a double back flip with full pike and half twist. Atleast you would get 6.0 points

Why would it not count ? answering serial modder's question ?? (Not the fastest n/a question) no matter what body the engine was in, it was a 968 based engine making big HP (900??) showing the potential.

I heard one of Scott Gomes customers has one of these engines ??

i'm just trying to find out what 944/951/968 4 cylinder engine is the most powerful, and if anybody has proof. as long as it's one of the original engines, it counts. converting to other engines (V8 and such) does NOT count.

i think bob norwood's doom cars were putting out over 800hp on a turbocharged 968 engine. there's an article in the june 1998 excellence magazine. if anyone can scan and email it to me, i'd be happy to host it.

Here's the Norwood built 951. I saw it in person at a PCA race right after the Excellence article came out. Trust me - pictures don't do it justice.

^^^^Howard's car is the most powerful I have heard of with some independant verification (if you consider an article in Excellence as verification).^^^^

I have heard about the Doom car but never found any articles about it other than from Norwood's website. I think Excellence did an article on it also after it was almost immediately banned from PCA racing but I haven't seen a copy of the article.
