I think you are using ARP studs, I dont know what they reccomend. Raceware says no loctite, teflon thread sealing compound only.

Konstantin -

I talked to EBS earlier this year about their ARP studs, and among other things asked whether threadlocker should, or shouldn't be used. Their answer was - yes, use a small amount of red loctite, or equivalent. Coincidentally, I was about to call ARP today to order my own head studs, but got too busy at work. I will try again tomorrow. I'll confirm the loctite issue and report what I find out. Also, you've got email.

Now that those blowhards Frances and Jeanne have left my neighborhood, I'll pick up where I left off! I called ARP a couple of days ago to order my studs, and asked about the use of threadlocker. It was explained to me its alright to use threadlocker so long as you - 1) get the studs positioned correctly before the threadlocker sets, and 2) you don't intend to, or foresee having to remove them. Incorrectly set studs, and difficulty in removing threadlocked studs are the reason they sometimes don't recommend the use of threadlocker. No other black vodoo involved here!

To add also, the Threadlocker will not help with the install or the clamping. It is there only to stop them from coming out on disassembly. In fact, more attention should be put ensuring that the threads in the block and the holes are clean of dirt and that the threads are in place and not stretched. Whatever Porsche recommends, the use of good engineering should be considered. Porsche may recommend the use of Locktite, but be sure you know why.

If you use the loctite be sure to install all studs to correct height and then set the head on with light torque overnight before doing final torque. This puts a tensile load on the studs and draws all thread faces into the opposing thread faces, squishes out the loctite where it shouldn't be and then when it sets you have none between load side of the thread on the stud and the block.
