Default Why can't the KYB inserts be used on the front

Can the KYB strut insert be used on the sealed front strut on a 88 951. I assume there is some modification to be made to the strut housing for this to happen. Anyone got a procedure for this. I have seen the Paragon Tech procedure for the Konis. This will obviously not work for the KYB. Anyone got anything to help me with this.

Thanks in advance

You answered your own question. The KYB also does not have the threaded bottom bolt that you drill to hold the INSERT in place of the Koni, that Koni has perfected as an aftermarket upgrade. Call Jason if you want to do the good insert. A friend of mine did it to his 86, pc of cake.

The KYB and simialr inserts are made for the early struts which are designed to be "rebuildable", in that the top of the strut tube is threaded to accept a threaded cap.

The later struts use a crimped top cap and as such were designed to be a 'throw-away" part.

Koni has solved this problem with their inserts, and the process of modifying later struts to accept the Koni inserts is a piece of cake.

Talk to Jason or Skip at Paragon Products. If memory serves, Koni inserts are about $155.00 each, and are cheap at the price compared to NEW MO3O struts.

I just did this on my car. The modification is not very difficult. We actually used a lathe and chucked the strut by pulling the shaft completely out and tac welding it. Made for some very true and straight mounting holes and top cutoffs. Put them on the car last night.

Thanks folks. I think I will go with the Koni in the front. Any suggestions for the rear. Does Koni make something for the rear or are there other options. Thanks again

Actually Paragon has shocks ready to go, already done as they WANT the sealed cores for the this very puprose. Probably get the Koni yellow for the rear(adjust them off the car). Talk to Jason, tell him what your intentions are with the car - he'll fix you right up.

When we bought the track setup from him, he took the old struts for a core credit; very few dollars but it helped.

Um... and you are saying that why? KYB makes very good shocks actually, and most good quality adjustables can be found for significantly less then the more expensive brands. Though most of the time you get what you pay for, sometimes you pay for a name. Just my $0.02!

Trust me, they cost $30/each for a reason.
I am speaking from first hand experience.

Well I've never experienced their inserts, but KYB's AGX line is pretty damn good. Don't dismiss their whole product line just yet. You might just be surprised.

I'd dismiss anything KYB, including the AGX, as Cyrus says, they're trash.
