i'll have to look at the vacuum lines (they all needed replaced anyway) - as for the cat - i have another '86 cat - will this mount-up to an '88 OR should I splurge and go with a new free flowing cat?

pardon my ignorance - what is AFM?

thanks
tom

High NOx is a sign of running too lean. Is your test a rolling dyno test or just at idle? Are you running stock or modified?

the test is a rolling - steady hold at 25 mph. the car is pretty much stock: chipped, shimmed WG, K&N intake kit - BUT stock beyond that!! I just replaced the fuel regulator and damper, new plugs, plug wires, coil cap and rotor.

i'm thinking i'll start with the O2 sensor (have never replaced it), in addition, replace all the vacuum lines. A new cat and exhaust surely woundn't hurt - still running the original equipment.

Check for vacuum leaks. The lines, the BOV, fuel breather valve, heater control valve, anything connected to the vacuum system. Check for cracks in the J-boot.

will do - the J-boot is brand new - i'm still thinking vacuum lines maybe the simplest check and fix - i'll check those out to night! On a side note - does anybody sell and complete vacuum line kit and coolant hose clamp kit?

thanks

Yes, that's true enough, I should have been more specific. You can measure air flow meter voltage at the DME. This voltage helps the DME control the air fuel mixture at part throttle driving (as in a rolling test). In any event, my car failed the test last year, and I spent major $ trying to find the culprit. Turned out being a bad air flow meter. But the upside is I now have all new tune up and ignition parts, vacuum lines, and a hi-flow SFR cat pipe...
