Even better, OOO Magazine did a complete article on this car in issue #8. Complete with history and archival photos.
If you are a 951 fan, getting a back issue from the OOO people is well worth the money.
These cars were a major part of Porsche's water cooled, front engine, race program.....what little of it there was.

During the years that these cars were run in TransAm, this car was used as the "US supply of spare running gear pieces". Once a piece was used, Fabcar ordered replacement parts from Germany and installed them back onto this car.
As a result, every single chassis part on this car is brand new. (Note that the front brake pads have never touched the rotors.)
The exception to this is that the engine was dyno tested and broken in at Porsche Motorsports, but has not run since that point in time.

Interestingly there is more than one of these being featured, driven and worked upon recently. There's video of the Red Electrodyne one being driven at Laguna Seca in the last year.

Another part of Al Holbert's genius vision to promote the front engine water cooled cars, which died with him.
It's a bit of a different animal, built around the basically same tub.
Great to see it out and running around!
Another very precious piece of 944 history, which I think explains how it is being driven (gently.)

Yes, the Electrodyne car was the 8th one built, for use in the IMSA GTO class. instead of Trans Am Racing.

Yes, that was the first thing that frustrated me but I believe there was a reason for him taking it somewhat easy with the car that day. Michael Mount is working on that car currently. Do you know what the transmission in the white one is? The Electrodyne car has a Hollinger in there.
None of the GTR guys seemed to like the Hewland. The service guys said it was difficult to work on and the drivers certainly did not like it. Additionally, the Hewland was a bit "fragile" once the horsepower of the cars went up and Trans Am made these cars add additional weight.
Porsche had the perfect transmission, for the car, from the 962's. Plenty robust for the application.
The issue (as always) was getting Porsche Motorsports to "cut loose" with any of their precious 911 stuff.

It is the original Hewland, which all of the Trans Am cars came with. I have no idea of what transmission came in the Electrodyne car.
