I Have the 86 Escort car, Porsche Motorsport/ Al Holbert #14

about it originaly came with 3 Chip 250,275 & 300 HP.

I so far have only located the DME unit today and cracked it
open. The chip has a hand writen label that reads like this
( and is in poor handwriting) Please help me desifer it or if
anyone can find this # in a parts book? wounder if its a 250,
275, or 300hp.
part # "951(W, U or N) 08 S-4 100 0kt." (or maybe it says 1000ht) ???????

Also a guy at Andile said he found a crumb of info somewhere
that the Escort cars had 3 chips and required 104 octain?

Thanks for your help, Porschehead

If you want to send me the chips, I can compare them to the various TurboCup chips I have and plot their 3D maps for you. The 250bhp car ran at about 12psi boost and the 290bhp ran 17psi. I haven't been able to locate a 300bhp car or chip to map yet. So one of yours might be this last missing link. I'll even throw in a GURU Chip-kit for your trouble. Which is actually good for 335bhp @ 18psi.

Isn't this about the 10th time we've seen something to the effect of: "Hey, I just bought an ex-Al Holbert Escort Cup car"...?

Ref. Darius: Try Not to faint......$2,000. 00, plus the guy threw in 2 brand new sets of Michalins which I sold a few weeks later for $700.
So I have $1,300.00 in it at this point.

I do have the original factory balanced and blueprinted drivetrain that was out of the car when I bought it.I'm sure doing even a functional restoration and putting it back to full Rothmans livery will cost a bunch. Its an intersesting car with a great history. I was just lucky to have found it.

Ref. Danno: Thanks for the offer Danno I'll ponder on it? The car is in storage now about an hour from my house and I dont know when I'll get back by there to grab the DME Box.

Ref. SeaCay: I probably have been over posting about my car ,I found
it last July and the excitment hasn't worn off yet. "Sorry"

Porschehead,

Call German Auto Dismantler's located in Dalonaga Ga. Ask for the owner who's name is Joe( he can be real hard to reach). He at one time told me he raced two of the original factory cars bought over, he still has many spares and knows all about these cars, he also told me the same thing about the chips, different chips for different tracks , conditions , etc.. He told me that porsche would send over a courier with the chips in a locked brief case. Real James Bond stuff call me if you need more details 678-777-8622

Why don't you put the details about your car in your sig instead of at the beginning of each thread. Reading your introduction and seeing the same pictures in all of your threads is wearing a bit thin.

UMM. Don't you mean you found a 1986 shell that someone installed some escort goodies and VIN# from the actual car that was wrecked??? Sorry but I'm really tired of you trying to pull this off as an actual Escort car...it's really just a chop shop job.

Oh yeah and it's spelled Andial not Andile

Ref. Por944trs: Thanks I'll check with Joe.

Ref. JustinL : Good Idea, I'm just not that computer literate and have
not figured out how to put my info. in the side bar yet?

Ref. Koda: I have never stated that the car is all original, in fact you can go
to one of my earlyer postings in General Discussion Forum dated
Jan -12- 04 were I wrote " The car was in a major crash
around 1990 and retubbed at a cost of around $ 27,000."

The insurace company paid to rebuild the car. I'm told By the
Porsche shop that over saw the rebuild that all the
serial #s ,drivetrain, wiring, exhaust, suspension, steering,
wheels, front fenders, bumper, door, spoiler, glass, interior,
dash........etc. were all transfered from the original car to a
stripped out 86 hull. So I would say a fair amount of the
original car exists.

There is still red , white and blue paint visable in areas. It still
has a good title......So it is what it is.

I'm not out to deceive anyone.

I have heard of many race cars that were retubbed.

I recently ran across an add for a 73 911 RSR
with a race history that was not cheap. I think $125,000.
When reading the lingthy history, it said the car was wrecked
and retubbed on a 72 911T shell in the late 1970's. It is
currently only a roller with a aftermarket cage and 934 style
body work. I'm guessing the only original parts left are the
serial # and maybe the tranny. ( way to much money ,I agree)

My cars cash value, or lack of value means very little to me.
I've loved Porsches since I was 15 years old, ( had my first 914
at 17)and I love Porsche racing history. To find the car and
researching all its past is what I enjoy. For me it will be a fun
affordable project with some history attached even if it is not
all original and won't be presteenly restored.

As far as my poor spelling goes, I have had dyslexia all my life,
(No kidding) so I allways appreciate spelling assistance.

Porschehead, I'm still STOKED for you, man! I was just doing a search today to oogle the old race pics of YOUR car, only to see you getting flamed by some lame-*** with 30 posts sounding like he knows more than he does.

****, can't the guy be pumped about FINDING and buying Al F**king Holbert's old cup car? I recall when you found the gem, Porschehead (your name escapes me- get your kids to help you with your signature, man!! ).

So Koda, the next time you spout off at the mouth and try to **** on someone's parade, be REAL sure you know what you're talking about least you look like a buzzkilling troll. Check that; a buzzkilling troll who doesn't have a clue!

Now that that's done, what's the story on the restoration, man? You still gonna go with the Rothman's livery? Sorry to pester you, but I intentionally searched to find an update on that oh-so-cool piece of history. Laters...

Of the 40 or so built 1974 RSRs, only 4 or 5 did *not* get bent, and about half of them are on new shells. Add to that the fact that almost every car has had a few engine changes in its life, plus more mods than a riced out Honda, and you start to wonder why we admire them as original.
Porschehead's car has a seemingly verifiable, continuous history, with famous drivers/owners, and is the most bang for the buck in regard to factory race cars.
To me it is the real deal, not an overpriced T shell, with the 4th engine, a modern seat, and some electronic engine management.
Have fun with it, and do not let people rain on your parade.
