I wish I could be in his shoes. Score any 951 especially THIS one for $2000.00 and I would be WAY happy and all ya'all would never hear the end of it from me. Once ya get her up and running let us know if your going to run her anyplace like Robling Roads (sp?) and I will take the trip down to see it.

Oh yeah and it's spelled Andial not Andile
WOW! That's pretty harsh. Crap, if I found a $2,000 951 with that history then I'd post it everyday along with a nay nay nee nay nah.

Agreed. Hell, I'd probably post it HOURLY. The cool thing is that Sean (Porschehead) DOESN'T post a nanny-nanny boo-boo thread every day; even though he'd be justified in doing so. He even acts like a good guy when flaming little trolls try to step on his cloud. I was sharing this story with a hot-rodder friend last night, and while he doesn't "get" my obsession with 944's, he sure as Hell appreciated a great under-the-tarp-in-a-backyard story.

So, what exactly is the timeline you have planned to get this car back into proper form?

What sort of work needs to be done still? What progress have you made? I have access to a proper complete set of Rothmans decals for that car. Let me know if you are interested (they aren't cheap, though................)

Take care,

Jeremy

Responses from Porschehead.

Ref. TAYLORSEA4: Not much of an update to report, car still in storage
awaiting the economy and my paycheck to improve.
Yes, still going to do the full Rothmans livery & #14.

Ref. GEORGEK : Thanks for the 911RSR history lesson, I thought it was
not uncommon for racing porsches to be retubbed.

Ref. IPSC & TIFOSIMAN:
Probably a year or two before compleated...depending
on cash flow.

What do you guys think?

In the mean time before the cars restoration
gets into full swing I would consider putting it,
( the Escort 951) on a trailer and taking it to
some P.C.A. or racing events. It could be
diplayed in (nasty) "as found" condition with
a good bit of documentation and old race
photos. I would state that the car was crashed
and retubbed, (some people seam to have an
issue with that).

People might enjoy crawling around on it and
seeing things like the 8" & 9" X16" Fuchs,
massive adjustable sway bar (see photo),
Adjustable Konis with, Adj. spring plates and
500# springs...Etc.

I'm not sure of the reaction as many in the
Porsche crowd only want to see perfect,
shiney, original cars?

Thanks, Porschehead

One thing you *could* do for us is borrow a dig camera and shoot a series of good pics of the car, to give a better appreciation of the special details. I would kil for a pair of all manual sportseats like you have.

Porschehead's car has a seemingly verifiable, continuous history, with famous drivers/owners, and is the most bang for the buck in regard to factory race cars.
To me it is the real deal, not an overpriced T shell, with the 4th engine, a modern seat, and some electronic engine management.
Have fun with it, and do not let people rain on your parade.

Thanks George.

People seem to have different opinions about a retubbed( reshelled ) car.
If it had not been rebuilt it would no longer exist. I'd hate to think
of the probably hundreds of much more significant Porsche race cars
that would not be around today without the reshelling process.

One of my documents posted below. Bill of sale from Leroy Cannon Porsche.
After they bought it from Porsche Motorsport and ran it at 24 Hr. Mid Ohio, they sold it as a street car....."All Previouse use was as a race car".
( Not sure if I posted this before? If so sorry)

As far as my poor quality photos.......Your right, they were taken in poor lighting conditions with an El-Cheapo Digital camera a few days after I got the car home. Will try to get some better ones sometime.

DANNO: My car may have run the 300HP. chip at Mosport 24 Hr.?
According to race results it dropped out of the race on
lap 216 with a blown head gasket.

****, can't the guy be pumped about FINDING and buying Al F**king Holbert's old cup car? I recall when you found the gem, Porschehead (your name escapes me- get your kids to help you with your signature, man!! ).

So Koda, the next time you spout off at the mouth and try to **** on someone's parade, be REAL sure you know what you're talking about least you look like a buzzkilling troll. Check that; a buzzkilling troll who doesn't have a clue!

Now that that's done, what's the story on the restoration, man? You still gonna go with the Rothman's livery? Sorry to pester you, but I intentionally searched to find an update on that oh-so-cool piece of history. Laters...
Wow, thats funny, I think you have some anger issues! I think he already admitted he did not find alholberts actual car, but a car that was rebuilt using parts and vin#'s from Al Holberts car.

Sounds like he is handling it in a better way then you , looks like you are new here and brought a serious lack of manners . Please take the time to look around and see how to behave here, we try to help each, not demean each other for no apparent reason.
