Default looking for shop in san diego area

I will be picking up an ebay purchased 951 and driving it from san francisco to san diego next wk. I will be leaving the car there for a couple of weeks and would like to get a few things checked and have the timing chains done while it is there. can anyone recommend a good honest shop other than a dealer. when i pick the car up again I plan to drive it 1500 miles back home to texas, so i need someone familiar with our cars to try and help minimize the chance of unpleasant surprises on the road. I don't want it dynoe'd or race prepped, Just want someone that knows 951's., and is honest. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The roughly 500 miles between San Francisco and San Diego will give ample opportunity for "surprises" so it might be a good idea to have the belts , etc. done before leaving the San Francisco area. If you going to risk the drive with an unckecked car, then try Black Forest in San Diego - a good independent Porsche shop.

Two of the biggest names in 951 here in San Diego are John Anderson of Anderson Mototrworks and Chris of Mind Over Motorsoports (check their websites). Both shops are very knowledgable and freindly. Due to the nature of the beast these shops bread and butter is in the race side of the house.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead to get some more recommendations on an honest shop in San Diego that knows 951's. Preferably in north county, but anywhere in town is fine. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post it. Thanks in advance.

I was is San Diego 2 weeks ago and saw a shop named Dieters located in Downtown of all places. It is on Market Street just before the on ramp leading onto the I-5 South freeway from downtown. There were some very very nice 911's, and other Porsches inside being worked on and everything was spotless clean. Hope this helps.

I would like to also reccomend Black Forrest in Kearny Mesa / Clairmont, I would trust them, I do my own work but they were very helpful and reccomended their excellent machine shop. Motorworks in National City. I rebuilt my short block (spun#2 rod), head, turbo, clutch,dp wastgate, belts, hoses, water pump, cooling system etc... car runs great now. I would be happy to help if I can....

SFR no longer does any work (As per my last conversation with Tim) and is strictly a parts distributor.

Black Forest is the place to go. See Jeff. He's the man. Very honest and willing to give advice to help the average dude. Good people!

We will do big projects but we have no desire to swap out timing belts and change engine oil. Black Forrest is the best for that if you dont want to go to the dealer.
