One of the kits used shorter rods iirc. Maybe it was Powerhaus? Andial's site refers to "special" Carrillo rods. Are they stock length but "special" in some other way? Or are they just regular Carrillo 944 rods?

They are the std 944 rods.

Displacement changes are dependent on what you'll do with the car (race, track fun, all out power)
Folks that run 2.8L or larger are in the GT1 class in PCA... good luck on trying to beat down a 2000lb twin turbo 911 belching out 650whp
2.6 L are the maxium 951 displacements for the GT3 class. Atleast here there is a very good chance on running down a 3.4 liter NA 911.

A short update, the car's NA right now, charge pipes aren't here yet hehe. Driving around and doing some street tuning, the engine bay is mildly warm. It's scary... it's like the engine isn't heating up, but that's not the case. Without the heat wrap, when I opened the hood, I used to get a nice heat wave of air blasting into my face.
Looks like the heat tape wrap stuff makes a HUGE difference to underhood temperatures. Meaning all that heat is going to the turbo now, so spoolup should be significantly better.
Too bad I didn't try this on the 2.5L to see how big of a difference there is...

Another update... I got boost! OK, before with the 2.5L and 57 trim turbo, with the boost controller off, it runs 0.54bar of boost (8psi spring). In 3rd gear, it takes about 3600rpm to make 8psi of boost (12psi by 3800rpm). So, with the 60 trim turbo and 2.8L, I'm making 0.54bar at 3000rpm. Image rpm is a bit higher because my reaction time is a bit slow pressing the hold button

The car feels good. Rings are starting to seat, no blowby, very minimal exhaust oil smoke. Hopefully another 500 miles of break-in, the rings will seal nice and tight, and I'll be able to turn the boost up.
