Bigger turbo. I flow a lot more air at 15psi than the stock turbo at 18psi.

How does this WG setup work? Is that just a "muffler" on the end of it?

What is the filter under the intake?

Correct. Except now, there's no muffler there. If you view some of my later videos, you'll hear the wastegate open... completely unmuffled exhaust out that dump pipe. Music to my ears lol. You'll also see flames shooting out from that pipe underneath the car on downshifts .

I honestly can't remember, it's been quite a while. John Anderson doesn't usually sell the pistons and sleeves separately because he keeps the specs secret. He only builds complete 2.8L blocks for customers. He made an exception for me because I was up in Canada and it's a bitch shipping a motor back and forth across the border.

I bought the Mahle 3 liter turbo pistons, so cannot advise on the cost of sleeving, sorry.

Andial (and others) sell a kit to do this. It makes a 2.8 stroker. The kits come with shorter rods and custom pistons to correct the compression ratio. The crank alone will not work. The piston will come up too far in the bore, and the compression will be out of control.

The 2.8L stroker from Andial uses the 3.0L crank, stock length rods (Cariillo) and custom Mahle pistons with different pin height.
You can use the stock rods, but will need to shave the rod bolts some of them touch the oil pan.

One of the kits used shorter rods iirc. Maybe it was Powerhaus? Andial's site refers to "special" Carrillo rods. Are they stock length but "special" in some other way? Or are they just regular Carrillo 944 rods?

Tom, you are correct. Someone other than Andial uses shorter rods, which is not ideal. Andial do sell "special Carrillo". They must be for the price LOL.
They are the std 944 rods.

"custom Mahle pistons with different pin height."

and the pistons have a deeper dish too.

pin height - to get the piston to travel the right distance
deeper dish - to get the same compression ratio as stock 8:1

Short rods are not ideal.

Displacement changes are dependent on what you'll do with the car (race, track fun, all out power)

Folks that run 2.8L or larger are in the GT1 class in PCA... good luck on trying to beat down a 2000lb twin turbo 911 belching out 650whp

2.6 L are the maxium 951 displacements for the GT3 class. Atleast here there is a very good chance on running down a 3.4 liter NA 911.

A short update, the car's NA right now, charge pipes aren't here yet hehe. Driving around and doing some street tuning, the engine bay is mildly warm. It's scary... it's like the engine isn't heating up, but that's not the case. Without the heat wrap, when I opened the hood, I used to get a nice heat wave of air blasting into my face.

Looks like the heat tape wrap stuff makes a HUGE difference to underhood temperatures. Meaning all that heat is going to the turbo now, so spoolup should be significantly better.

Too bad I didn't try this on the 2.5L to see how big of a difference there is...

Another update... I got boost! OK, before with the 2.5L and 57 trim turbo, with the boost controller off, it runs 0.54bar of boost (8psi spring). In 3rd gear, it takes about 3600rpm to make 8psi of boost (12psi by 3800rpm). So, with the 60 trim turbo and 2.8L, I'm making 0.54bar at 3000rpm. Image rpm is a bit higher because my reaction time is a bit slow pressing the hold button .

The car feels good. Rings are starting to seat, no blowby, very minimal exhaust oil smoke. Hopefully another 500 miles of break-in, the rings will seal nice and tight, and I'll be able to turn the boost up.
