Talking 500hp!!

This srt-4 made 500hp in this video on a 2.4L engine. How hard is to get this out of a 2.5L porsche engine.http://www.turbochargers.com/forumuploads/500hp.wmv

Comparing apples to oranges. This SRT has a 16V DOHC 15 years newer technology.

Daniel, of course and it already has been applied. There were several threads in this forum on mating the 968 16V DOHC to our engines. Needless to say the cost is prohibitive to all but cash smoking tycoons

Saw the dyno chart of one on a Dodge board - HP line was almost 75 degrees.

videos like those just make me feel like garbage. Our "porsches" can't even get close to that without INSANE money.

ROFL That was great! I think they used something like dustoff but it woulden't help.

I saw that video on the Srt4 boards. That was N20 they were spraying on the intercooler.

In all fairness, that is a very nice dyno, but don't doubt the 951s.

Fabricate a custom tubular 4-1 exhaust manifold and mount a GT40/30 Garrett, also mount a big front mount and custom piping, turn the boost up to 27psi on race gas, with a good tune on standalone and you might be surprised at what kind of power can be made on our "old tech" SOHC motors.

That is what was done to that Srt-4. I bet a 951 with a similar setup would dyno a similar number, even with our archaic SOHC. ; )

2.5 SOHC 4cyl VS 2.5 DOHC 4 Cyl.... I wouldn't call it apples to oranges, maybe apples to slightly different apples.

K27/8 22-23 psi, water injection, MAF/MAP, injectors, air/fuel dead on.......be pretty darn close.

I know Danno has like 350+ at the wheels with chips for K27 and only Auto at MAF, 20 psi and he couldn't tune it that well with that MAF. So that is about 415 at the crank. Now add dead on tuning...about 10-15% more hp. Then another 3 psi. Be looking at about 450-475 at the crank with no actuall engine work. With a 968 head, be over 500hp.

Last time I spoke to Chris Cervelli, he told me he was able to get 412rwhp on a GT25 turbo running around 25psi with race gas. This is on a 2.5 engine with factory electronics and a 2 valve head. Throw in a 4 valve 944S head with proper pistons and now you are talking apples to apples.
Most people are afraid to run those high boost numbers but the GT series turbo's are designed for it. No backpressure issues with these babies.
A GT30 would easily make over 450rwhp with its bigger size. The name of the game is boost and keeping detonation down.
EZ, it would be very hard to mate a 16 valve 3.0 head to a 2.5 shortblock. It would be much easier to just destroke a 3.0 16 valve 968 engine to a 2.6 with a 951 crank. That is what Bob Norwood did with his monster as well.
Regards.

Got it! thanks for the clarification. To tell the truth beyond the standard engine configuration I am in the fog about the ins/outs of 944 engine building. But it still begs the question at what cost say a shop with good reputation would charge to put the above mentioned engine together with all the goodies and machine work?

Your 968 Turbo is 8 or 16V?

EZ, I have an 8 valve and prefer it that way. This way I get more torque but lose out on some high end HP which I don't really need. Also, the 2 valve design is simpler and can use a lot of 951 parts to accomplish. 4 valves = custom everything and lots of $$$$.
Regards.

Agreed on all accounts. I've read from hearsay that the 968T were 8V but wanted to hear first hand from someone who actually owns one
