Default Selling my 86 944 Turbo - Where is the market?

Hi all, I've reluctantly decided to sell my 951. Car is in really great shape. I've made a for sale listing here on rennlist: https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1139041

I really am not sure if I'm in the right ballpark on price or not (too high, too low, just right?), so I'd be happy to hear from any of you guys who can confirm if I'm on the right track. Based on the others listed on here, mine is a steal, but for all I know the others may be out to lunch. Thanks

I am interested to see what others say. I would say that for $16.5K, I would be expecting a car without dash cracks and at least a period correct radio. Based on what everyone seems to be asking for 968's these days, this price doesn't surprise me, but it's only an asking price. I always wonder what the cars really sell for. I don't think it will sell fast at this price, but hopefully I will be proved wrong. Best of luck!

Well put...always hard to tell what the spread is between asking vs. selling. Benefits of this car are primarily found underneath....every maintenance item is completely taken care of, vs. many examples on the market that still require $4-6k of work to reach a truly reliable driver. I figure if the cars that need work are steadily selling from 10-13k, 16 would be a deal for an already sorted car. That said, I am flexible on price, really testing the waters at this point.

Great car I feel.

Is that 16500.00$ US or Canadian.

Hope the car stays in Canada

If I were in the market it would be on my list.

Its very much market dependent, 951’s here in Florida and generally in the south that require $4-6k of work are not fetching anywhere near 10-13k, maybe 6-8k, Canada may be totally different.

Another thing I've noticed is that sellers of the early 86-88 turbos are valuing their cars based on some of the classic valuation websites. Those sites don’t take into account the many low $ private sales of these cars and the values also seem skewed by the sales of the 88S and 89 cars which are a totally different animal to the early cars.

Its without doubt a well-maintained and good example and you should probably hang around for the right buyer but I’d say for an 86 you’re about $2k too high on your asking if you are looking for a faster sale.

Priced in USD...since it is a US car I anticipate it will more than likely return stateside (hence selling in US). Has happened with a couple previous cars.

Yes, definitely depends a lot on area. Here in Canada asking prices seem to be around 30k CAD but are not selling (around 22k USD). Our market sucks here so finding any example at a halfway reasonable price is a PITA.

I think your pricing is on point...I'm going to lower the price a little bit. I think I was feeling overconfident late last night when I posted it, LOL

Id say you are a bit on the high side. For that price id want Canadian car, original paint, clean and perfect interior, no cracks, rips tears or stains. I know of a local 89 with 50,000 kms that went for 10k ish... Halifax area. I bought mine in Calgary 14 years ago with 108km (canadian car) for 15k retail with the above criteria.

Do an "advanced search" on Ebay for "sold listings for 944 Turbos. Will give you an idea of what actually "sold" price was. Can also do a search on Bringatrailer.com, with sold items at auction. Condition and mileage is everything. Haggerty value for #3 driver is $13.1K.
