I have found the search function to be very helpful in answering many questions regarding this subject. I for one bought a used bursch, had it cleaned and coated by jethot for a total of $235.00. Will eventually go three inch just because.

Is one test pipe more prone to exhaust poping on overrun than another?? I have a BUrsch and have some pretty bad poping on overrun. I have heard the Bursch do this. Anyone?

After lurking around rennlist for the better part of a year I have come to several conclusions.
1. Cheap parts for porsches cost a lot of money.
2.People like superjet know what they are talking about.
3.Reinventing the wheel is a waste of time and money.
4.It is best to buy the car before you modify it.
5. Search the archives before you ask a question, the experts here are generous with their time, we shouldn't waste it with new requests for the same old answers.
6.Whenever I post and read it later, I sound like an ****.
7.I need more posts so I can have a cool avatar, but based on number 6...

Whats the advantages on going to a 3" instead of a 2.5" test pipe?

Burma, lol, no worries... I tried searching the forum, but coming up with a gajillion threads with the words "test pipe" in them didn't really urge me to sift through the rubble to find a diamond.

I am a common user of the search function guys, don't worry. I wanted to start a thread where people would express their opinions o different test pipes as well as their experiences... and start a good thread for others to find searching later on (hence the good title).

'86, if you don't have 3" exhaust, there is no real benefit. Look around for a recent thread talking about exhaust diameter choices... Danno posted some brilliant explainations as usual that you might find useful... I know I sure did!

Now that I have a "try the search function" post under my belt, I still find myself wanting more. Oh well, another one of life's disapointments. As for the test pipe I figured a used bursch plus coating would be the best alternative for me. I live in the south so no road salt, never found a thread proving the advantage of a 3" for diy h.p. levels, spent the savings on a 38mm tial, and if I do need 3" when I upgrade the turbo I can resell the bursch for close to what I have in it(new jethot coating for 2000deg.+ so it should last). All that being said, the p.o. installed a b&b cat back(purty) and a stainless 3" test pipe sure would look nice next to it. I try not to spend too much time under there so I wouldn't see it anyway, its a shame the tial is out of sight as well(it's purty too).Note: If anyone does buy a used pipe the gaskets are a pita to get a hold of and I am told the stock rings will not work(2 weeks and counting for gaskets to arrive).

I think I'm getting the hang of this. I'll be quiet now.

1 piece of exhaust straight pipe, 2 heavy duty exhaust clamps, 1 grinder to cut out cat, couple hours work, 15$ = cat by pass/test pipe.

Of course others in here somehow think a name brand piece of pipe and a generic piece of metal pipe equal to better performance or more hp, but I have yet to see anyone post a dyno to such. But, as stated earlier, to each his own

Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree! Not only is it the same power rating, it's cheaper AND gives you the right to say "yeah... I did that."

I got my test pipe from europroducts www.eurowebparts.com for 200$ and they are here in town so that's why I choose them plus the price was great don't know how much they cost now. It has some surface rust right now after about 2 years.

Yes it will because the SFR test pipe IS a Fabspeed test pipe. They are just reselling Joe's part.
