Saratoga Tops
#181
If anyone is interested I have an original Saratoga top (electric) that is like new and even includes the original manual, receipt, etc. that I am willing to sell. Was going to throw it on the classifieds, but figured people on this thread are clearly looking for one. PM me if you are interested.

It was all about a patent. Once the original ran out, anyone could do them. I found the original manufacturer, who still had the tooling to make the glass. All the pieces fell into place, and we had these tops again. I got one of the first runs and it is a great top, no issues and I love the light in the car now. Good luck to all who get them and enjoy as much as I do. Was a worthwhile project and I am so happy I could help so many others.

Wow, that is unfortunate. I would not be surprised if that is not the final answer regarding sourcing these tops, but the degree of difficulty just got way higher and we are a tiny and diminishing customer base. Stephencs601 really caught lightning in a bottle. Get them while/if you can.
A Saratoga top was the first accessory I wanted when I got my first 951 in the mid-1990s. I got one of the originals in the 2000s, but the seal is shot and it is annoyingly noisy. I got one of the reissues here and it has been on my car ever since. In both purchases I did not hesitate for a moment.

By far one of the most exciting things I did with cars. I am so happy so many were able to obtain these wanted tops.
Now start working on the suspensions to really enjoy the cars.

I have an OEM gray Saratoga top for sale. In in the last 22 years I have had 4 Saratoga tops. A bronze and three grays. Bronze was heavily scratched I refurbed it it scratches still wouldn't come out a Lister wanted it in the worst way he knew the condition I sold it
The next one got sold on a 88 silver rose turbo s I sold it with the car I refurbished that one also . The third one resides on an 89 turbo s. And this is the last one I've had for 15 years I haven't finished refurbing it it still needs the seals installed as you can see in the pictures. It's an excellent shape. The only thing which you can see in the pictures is some cracks in the 30-year-old plastic on the trim piece on the inside nothing to do structurally with the glass. I want $1,800 for plus shipping and if you're smart you would insure it also. I can tell you right now shipping and insurance will run between $100 and $200 depending on where it's going in the country shipping is out of control! Sorry about the reflections in the pictures I couldn't find a way to avoid that.

Just bought a new one today from Fessler USA, https://www.feslerusa.com/products/p...ed-version-oem. $600, free local pickup and they have stock in AZ and OH (otherwise the shipping is pretty expensive). They say they sell about 10/month and haven't had a single return yet.
