Default Tire size combos for 18" wheels

Any of you guys tried a 285/35/18 with 245/40/18 combo?

In the past I've used a 285/30 and 245/35 combo just because they match the original tire diameter, but I'm looking at trying a different tire that comes in the above sizes.

Please post pics if you've got them!

I'm curious to hear about this combo too. I'm running 285/30 rear and 225/40 front on 996 lightweight 18in wheels. I'd like to run slightly larger (say 245) front if possible down the track.

On my track only 951 I've run 255 Yokamaha A050 at the front using my 996 18x8 wheels. I didn't experience any rubbing but that is my rain tyre (not driven often or as hard) and that size was chosen (as big an A050 as I could get on the rim) to get as close to possible section width as the rear tyre( A050 265). By comparison I was running a 295/235 dry A050 (and it understeers with 295/235 combo which is why I tried to even up the tyre size in my wets). This weeks R compound dry tyre mix will be 295/265 on18x10 front and rear.

Good info. Thanks Kelly. I'd love to run a 255 up front but feel that may be pushing it a bit for my setup. What offset is your 18x8in front wheel and are your guards rolled? Is yours an 86 or late Turbo?

I run 255/35/18 on 8.5" wheels on the fronts for my '89 cars. I like how this tire size fills out the wheel well, but on bigger bumps there is rubbing on the outer portion of the tire against the wheel well liner.

My hope is to achieve this same appearance with the larger side profile from a 245/40/18.

Mine is an 87 (52mm offset). My front wheels are 18x10 ET60, no spacers. I ran the 265 Yokohama A050 at the track yesterday and they were fine. I do have my guards partly rolled.

On another note, I strongly recommend sticking pretty close to a square setup. Theres a balance between reducing wheel spin and maintaining good handling characteristics. The 944 is just too lovely of a handling car to stagger a bunch and induce understeer on.
